英クリーブランドの名インディーレーベル・サマーハウスから、常に良質な作品を紡ぎ続けるフレンズの2004年作。

いやあ、2002年に復活したときも思ったけど、今回の作品も、88年の名盤1stから随分時間が経っているけれど、全く変わらないですね。常にポジティブになれるポップチューンが詰まっている。そりゃあ成長がないという観方もあるかもしれないけれど、最近、すぐにエレクトロ化するバンドが多すぎます。そんな中、我関せずで己の道を突き進む彼らは、逆に痛快ですらあります。このアルバムもわずかにジャズっぽいフィーリングはあるものの、全くぶれることなくフレンズ的ポップを追求しています。
しかも、ボーカルの声質も少しも衰えていないです。おそらく、本当は国内盤でも出て、フレンズ特集など組めばもっと知られていいバンドだと思います。僕も、ほんとに音が手に入らなくて、1stのカモメジャケを見ては、その音を妄想するしかない時間が長かった。今は、こんなふうにアマゾンなどあるので、楽ですが、昔は本当に探しに探しました。そんなわけで、ここまで行き着いた方は、ぜひ聴いてみてください。
