貴重なディートリッヒのプライベートフィルム、同じく貴重な古い映画の記録、ニュースフィルム、関係者のインタビューからから構成。波瀾万丈の生涯をコンパクトにまとめてあるので、内容は盛りだくさん、編集もわかりやすいが、逆に、二時間程度の時間では収まらない人生を観ることになる。ディートリッヒをあまり知らない人でも解るように作られているので、それぞれの映像をもっと見たくなり、かえって欲求不満になるところもある。それにしても、それぞれの実写シーンは短いながら、何というオーラを放っていることか！　生ける伝説というにふさわしい存在感。同時に、ナチスの時代に居合わせ、翻弄されながら、必死に節を曲げずに生き抜いた一大の傑物の人生、見ていて痛々しく、また悲しい物語。リーフェンシュタールのドキュメント「レニ」と並べてみると感慨深い。

　ハリウッドの古き良き時代にドイツから招かれたディートリッヒ。保険までかけられた（保険金は実際におりている）100万ドルの脚線美に、奥歯を抜いて作られたくぼんだ頬、そして低いハスキー・ヴォイス。
　これまで幾度となく書かれてきた女優マレーネ。しかし、ハリウッドスターとしての側面は、この映画にはほとんど表れない。2つの戦争を生き抜いたひとりのドイツ人。その昔、彼女が愛したドイツを取り戻すべく、戦地を駆け巡った女性。歌ですべてを伝えた歌手。そんな姿がここにある。
　アメリカ国籍を取得しながらも、生涯ドイツ人の誇りも捨てなかった勇気あるマレーネ。貴重なフィルム満載の2時間である。素顔の彼女がそこにいる。

マレーネ・ディートリッヒのファンにはとても面白い作品だとおもいますが、マレーネ自信を知らなかった人にとっては、「こういう人が居たんだなぁ」程度で特に面白くないかもしれません。（私もその１人。というより知らないで観る人の方が少ないかな）ドキュメンタリーと描いてあるのに気づかず､少しつまらなかったと思います。ただﾄﾞｷｭﾒﾝﾀﾘｰが好きな方ならいいかもしれません。一応観ましたが、彼女の魅力は感じませんでした。彼女のことを知ってから観れば、きっと共感を持てたり、面白かったと思います。観ようとしてる方は、是非彼女を知ってから観たら、魅力が倍増する事だと思います。
