森俊之との(1)は、定番調のソウル/ファンクの見事な咀嚼ポップ曲。間宮工との(2)は、淡々としたフォーキー・ポップ。そして、同じく間宮との(3)はホール&オーツの有名曲(ポール・ヤングほか)のカヴァーで、スガの魅力が横溢したフォーキー・ソウル曲になった。

全曲聞きました。1クライマックスはスガさん流サマーソングで、一言でいって、ファンキー。キーボードベースとブラスが印象的で、そこにギターと力強いスガさんのボーカルがミックスされています。新たなスガさんでもありつつ、やはりスガさんにしか表せない音楽です。「最終電車にのって、家にたどりつく間」とサビでコーラスとボーカルのコラボがスガさん好きの人にはぞくっとくるはずです。

2のアーケイドは、一転してゆったりした、ドラムとボーカルがメイン。夜のアーケイドがテーマになっている寂しい夜が浮かんできます。3はホール＆オーツの名曲。かなり軽い語り口で歌っています。ポールヤングもカバーしてヒットした名曲ですが、かなりちがった印象です。これもスガさん流なのでしょう。これからもカバーを３曲目にいれるのをスガさんのCDシングルの定番にしてほしい。

　1「クライマックス」は１つの恋が終わっていく場面、2「アーケード」はひとつの恋が育っていく場面が歌われている。
　しかしそのメロディから思い浮かぶ情景は、なぜか1明(軽快)2暗(重厚)なのである。このようなある意味真逆のイメージを持つ詩と曲とを結びつけるのはスガの得意とする表現方法のひとつであろう。

　今作では1の曲と詩、2の曲と詩、そして1全体と2全体とが対になっているようにも思える、まさに秀逸な作品。
　個人的には「アーケード」のイントロから広がる世界観と音の重厚さが気に入っている。
