子供の頃街の映画館で夢中になって見た『笛吹童子』『紅孔雀』50年の
歳月を経てみるこの活劇冒険時代劇は、妖術あり、ロマンあり団塊の世代には懐かしく、若い人にも十分楽しめる作品である
東映時代劇の原点とも言える作品である

　私は「テレビ世代」です。巨人の試合が中止になると『ゴジラ』・『ゴジラの逆襲』を流していたテレビ局がありました。しかし、あるとき『笛吹き童子』が放映されたのでした。もちろん「ひゃらり、ひゃりこ〜」の唄は、よく知っていました。
それより前に『紅孔雀』はテレビ映画化されて観ておりました。でも、『笛吹き童子』が『紅孔雀』の前日譚であるということは知りませんでした。そして『七つの誓い』（総天然色アグファ東映カラー・ただしテレビはＢＷ）では「東映無国籍時代劇」（最もわかりやすいのは『旗本退屈男』シリーズでしょうか、他にもありますが）の将に萌芽を感じました。
　東千代之助・中村錦之介、そして大川橋蔵、若手総出演のなかで大友柳太郎が「苦悩」を抱えた役柄を重厚に演じています。可能ならば、発端『白鳥の騎士』（1953年新東宝−三原純、大友柳太朗など出演）・『オテナの塔』（『七つの誓い』の前日譚=1955年東宝−中村扇雀〈現二代目坂田藤十郎〉主演 ）・『天の鶯』（ラジオ放送のみ）・『黄金孔雀城』（完結編−1961年東映−沢村訥升〈故九代目沢村宋十郎〉・山城新伍など出演 ）を観てみたいですね。
『天の鴬』などは、忙しいけど、自分で「脚本」を書いみたいくらいの気がします。

　いま、映画化されつつある『ナルニア国物語』が英国ファンタジーの傑作（『指輪物語』とならんで）ならば、『新諸国物語』は、『南総里見八犬伝』に次ぐ「日本ファンタジー」の傑作だと存じます。
