   戦争末期の中国中部戦線。敵の捕虜となって軍に送り返されてきた三上上等兵（池部良）は、慰安婦の春美（山口淑子）と激しい恋に落ち、ついには軍からの脱走を図るが…。
   田村泰次郎の『春婦伝』を原作に、谷口千吉と黒澤明が脚色し、谷口が監督した戦争メロドラマの名作。軍隊の非人道性を戦後初めて告発した作品でもあり、その後の反戦映画にも大きな影響を与えたという意味でも記念碑的な作品といえるだろう。主演ふたりのはかない美しさもさながら、小沢栄太郎（当時は小沢栄）扮する残忍非道な軍人の姿も大いに印象に残る。同年度キネマ旬報ベスト・テン第3位。後に鈴木清順監督が本作のリメイク『春婦伝』を撮っているが、双方のテイストは大いに異なり、こちらも秀作に仕上がっている。（的田也寸志）

田村泰次郎の原作『春婦伝』はもともと李香蘭を念頭において書かれたそうで、ぴったりの配役になってます。
　ＧＨＱの検閲のため、原作では従軍慰安婦の春美は従軍歌手に変えられていますが、すべてを捨てて命がけの恋に生きようとする女が生き生きと描かれます。山口淑子が大熱演で、女優としてのステップアップを果たしたといえましょう。
　極限状況での激しい人間関係は今見ても印象的で、心に強く訴えるものがあります。

連合軍総司令部により、大幅に脚本が書き直しを命じられたという。その経過だけでも、この作品は歴史的に価値があると思う。現在の日本では、長期の戦争に疲れきった日本軍の描写を観て反感を持つ人も多かろう。しかしそれも戦争の反面であり、書き直された脚本であっても、この映画を冷静に見ることは重要なのだ。
もともと私は、キスシーンが長いとの宣伝で映画館に行った。しかしその割にはキスシーンはあまり印象は残ってなくて、ただ田村泰次郎の原作とかなり違うことだけ覚えていた。この度DVDで見て主演の３人の熱演と過酷な戦場の描写に改めて感動。涙が止まらなかった。終戦ま近の中国戦線の兵士と取り残された女性たち。燃え上がる若い男女の恋愛と上官の嫉妬。殺された女性の部屋に干されたワンピースのはためきが胸を打ち、虚しさと哀れさが強烈だ。ＮＨＫでも放送されたらと思う。主演で上等兵を見事に演じた池部良が、実際は陸軍中尉だったことを最近知って驚く。山口淑子と小沢栄太郎いうことなし。
