タイトルの通り、夏をテーマにした唄を集めたコンセプト・アルバムで、日本ならではの夏の風景を叙情的世界観で描いた楽曲カヴァーを中心に2曲のオリジナルとともに構成している。まずは選曲が素晴らしい。先行シングルとしてリリースされている「あの頃のまま」は、ブレッド&バターのロングセラーとなったヒット曲。「いちご白書をもう一度その後」といった内容で、ユーミンが呉田軽穂名義で書いた名曲だ。またチューリップの「夏色の思い出」、オフコースの「夏の終わり」、あの浜田省吾がデビューしたバンド愛奴の「二人の夏」など、いずれも切ない夏の風景が浮かんでくるような楽曲が揃っている。Something ELseの3人は、これらもともと美しいハーモニーの曲に果敢にチャレンジし、より爽やかなハーモニーをアコースティック・サウンドとともに聴かせてくれる。今年は記録的猛暑が続いていて残暑も厳しそうだが、その暑さを少しは和らげてくれるかもしれない。 (鈴木勝生) --- 2004年09月号
