涼しげな眼差しを持つ痩身の青年のような、透明感ある響きのベートーヴェンである。こうした“古楽”的解釈は、革新的というよりは、いまやすでに世界的にひとつの大きな流れになっている。それでもなぜだろう、この演奏には不思議に新しい印象と、ある種の痛快感がある。
その理由のひとつは、おそらくオーケストラ・アンサンブル金沢の奏者一人ひとりの自発性の高さにある。ライナーノートによれば、このレコーディングでは奏者は指揮者に対して容赦なく意見表明できる環境があり、活気ある議論とテンションの高さが印象的だったとのこと。そうした雰囲気を作り出し、一つの方向にまとめていく人間性もまた指揮者・金聖響の才能であろう。
そのおかげだろう、ダイナミクスやバランスの作り方も練りこまれているし、何より個々の奏者の顔がはっきりとわかるようなアンサンブルが気持ちいい。アンサンブルにおける個人の責任が重い少人数オーケストラの長所がはっきりと出ている。流行の真似事ではなく、試行錯誤の後に自分のものとした音楽が聴こえてくる。こんなオーケストラを持った街・金沢がうらやましくなるようなディスクである。
なお、初回プレス限定特典のDVDには、金聖響のインタヴューとリハーサル風景が30分ほど収められている。偉大な作品を前にして新しく納得いく解釈を作り出そうとする音楽家の苦闘が正直に映し出されている。（林田直樹）
