　リマールが抜けて４人になってリリースされた２作目。デビュー当初は、リマール中心のアイドルグループとして売られていたのですが、単にメインが抜けてマイナスになるどころか、グループの一体感が増し、ソフトジャス、ブラスによるインストュルメントなどへのアプローチ、ニックベックスの激テクのチョッパ-ベースなどをふんだんに取り入れた非常に聴きごたえのあるアルバムです。また、音質の向上により、各楽器音の輪郭が立って聞こえ、以前のCDやLPなどのシンセや高音が強調されたものに耳が慣れていたこともあり、今回その点のバランスがよくとれているので、まずそれに驚きました。
　ライナーに記載されていますが、メンバーが非常に楽しんでじっくり時間をかけて、いろいろなアレンジを試みるためセッションを繰り返し行った様子がうかがえます。リマールファンには申し訳ないが、リマールを中心に据えたバックバンド的な佇まいを嫌い、メインを外して自分らがほんとにやりたい音楽を練った結果が、この名盤を生んだと思っています。
　ベスト盤に選曲されるシングルカットされた曲もいいですが、#3.THE POWER TO FORGIVE #6.ISLAND 名曲の#7.ON A PLANEなどゆっくりと練られた演奏が聴ける曲も是非聴いて欲しいです。ボーナストラック"バックオンミー"のUS MIXもかなり秀逸でいいです。なにしろ、聴きどころ満載！

　個人的には当時のヘアー・スタイルと髭の濃さからしてあんまり好きじゃなかったけど（笑）、一般的にはフロント・マンとして持ち前の甘いマスクと甘い歌声でバンドの人気上昇に貢献したリマールがあっさり脱退して、元々の仲のよい4人組に戻ったカジャグーグーが1984年に発表した2ndアルバム。
　バンマスのニック・ベッグスが“単なるアイドル・バンドじゃね~んだぞ”と言わんばかりにベースやスティックをバキバキにプレイしながらリマールと好対照なシャープなボーカルを執り、“あんな金にうるさい奴がいなくたって！”と本気の4人が形にした本作には、カジャグーグーの本来の姿が収められていると思う。デビュー作もいいけど、この2ndも負けず劣らずの傑作──「アイランズ」を聴いてこそのカジャグーグー、と断言しちゃおっかな☆
　待ちに待った初CD化にあたってオリジナルの9曲に追加される予定のボーナス・トラックは、

リマールの脱退はカジャ・グーグーに大きな変化をもたらした。と言うより、本来やりたかった音楽性に戻ったというべきか・・・。そしてそれは、セールスとはまた別のところで大きくプラスになったのではないかと思う。１作目にあったいかにも大衆受けしそうなポップ性はここではあまり聴かれないが、それに変わり、リズムとファンク性を全面に打ち出した、驚くほどたくましく、かっこよくなった彼らのサウンドが聴かれる。何と言ってもニック・ベックスの見事なチョッパー・ベースは、このバンドの大きな魅力のひとつでもある。あの天才ベーシスト、マーク・キングのバンド、「レベル４２」が好きな方は、もしかしたらこのアルバムも気にいるかも知れない。もちろん、楽曲自体もクオリティはかなり高く、「ライオンズ・マウス」、「バック・オン・ミー」といったヒット曲をはじめ、個人的には大傑作だと思っている「オン・ア・プレーン」など全曲が完成度は高い。才能豊かなアーティストとしてのカジャ・グーグーを見せつけられたアルバム。
