A500とA900は同系統の音質と言われているが、聴き比べてみるとA900はやはり値段がA500の倍近くだけあって音質に明らかな差があった。
そこでATH-A700とA900を聴き比べると、確かに一般に言われているようにA700とA900(またはA500)では音質の傾向が別系統と思えるような違いがあった。つまり、A900は原音忠実性が高く音が自然で澄んでいるような感じ、A700は音がはっきりしていて多少シャリつくように感じた。
しかし、私は中音・高音にメリハリがあるA700のほうが好みであったので、聴き比べた後、即、A700を購入した。
オーディオテクニカのヘッドホン製品全般に言えるのかもしれないが、低音の迫力はいまひとつである。しかし、中高音は素晴らしいと思う。特に、金管楽器(トランペットなど)や打楽器の音は響きが深くてとてもいい。
ただし、これらの印象はもちろんステレオアンプのレベルでもかなり違うと思う。

私が現在所持しているヘッドホンの中では間違い無く最強です。

と、言うのもこのヘッドホンは非常にクセのない素直な音を鳴らして
くれるので、様々なプレーヤー＆アンプとの組み合わせが楽しめます。

これ単品の音としては、エージングが済むまでは音が硬く、高音が耳に刺さる感じがします。しかし、エージング後では高音の伸びが非常に良く、低音もやや迫力に欠けますが、嫌みがない音になります。

色々なジャンルの音楽でも無理なく鳴らせる、弱点のあまりないヘッドホンです。
また、クセが無いあまりにやや面白みに欠けることも有りますが、
それも色々な音源＆アンプの組み合わせを楽しむ為にはプラス要素です。

ヘッドホン単品でもオススメですが、アンプの個性も楽しみたい方にはもってこいです。

音場はよく、歯切れもいい音を鳴らしてくれ、ジャンルを問わず聞くことができる機種です。
ただ、女性ボーカルなどのサ行の音が少し強く出てしまう傾向があり、曲によっては嫌みが出てしまうことがあります。
あと、鳴らし方が結構、冷たい（暖かみがない）ので、聞き疲れを起こしやすい機種かもしれません。

それ以外はオールマイティーになんでも綺麗に再生できます。

全体としては、ドンシャリですが、結構フラットなので、多少高音と低音が強調されて聞こえてくる程度です。

コストパフォーマンスはあまりよくないですが、（原音忠実性）よりも綺麗な音を楽しみたい人向けだと思います。
