彼女のアルバムの中ではあまり脚光は当りませんが、名盤だと思います。前半を聴いてジャニスを始めて聴く人にとってはいまいちぴんと来ないかもしれませんが、ＬＰでいえばＢ面に当る後半4曲の一連の流れはロック史上でも屈指の名曲揃いだと思います。特に「コズミック・ブルース」対訳を読みながら聴くと涙なしには聴けません。また、「リトル・ガール・ブルー」地味ながら、心に染み入る佳曲だと思います。個人的には彼女のアルバムの中では一番好きです。

彼女のオリジナル作では"Cheap thrills"や"Pearl"に挟まれて、地味な印象の本作ですが、落ち着いた音をバックに情感のこもったヴォーカルが最高の出来と思っています。
"Cheap thrills"で大きく脚光を浴びた後、Freakyで実験的なサウンドを持ち味としたBig brotherから独立、Blues/Jazz系のミュージシャンを集め、まとまりのあるplayをバックに歌い込まれたものです。
なかでも、自分の幸せを指おり数える孤独な少女を切々と歌った"Little girl blue"(ちなみに"Pearl"のExpanded versionにbonus truckとして収録されたLiveも涙ものの出来です)はJanis屈指の名唱。他にもきっちりまとまりのある名曲"Kozmic blues"、BeeGeesの名曲を歌ってニクい出来の"Love somebody"など、Janisのヴォーカルを堪能できる佳曲揃いです。
今世紀に入って明らかにされてきた努力家としての彼女がOtis Redding、Billy Holidayに傾倒した頃らしく"歌"にこだわった作品と思いますが、一人でハモれると言われた彼女の声の調子が最も安定していた時期と言えるかもしれません。
