ドイツ軍の捕虜収容所で書かれた宗教的・象徴的な「世の終わり」と、セリーを基礎に色彩的で豊麗な響きが展開される「マルトー」を収録。レーベルの20世紀音楽を代表する緻密な演奏。

若きブーレーズが書いた「マルトー・サン・メートル」は、怜悧な計算に基づいて書かれた譜面づらがとっつきにくいことでも有名だが、鋭敏なセンスと色彩的な響きの豊穣さに貫かれた傑作だ。54年に音楽祭で受賞を逸した際に、作曲者が激怒して分厚いプログラムを引き裂いたことでも名高いわけだが、2回目(ステレオでは初)の録音にあたる当盤は、“怒りのブーレーズ”時代のぴりぴりとしたテンションとシャープな感覚に満ちているのが特徴的。ドイツ系の名手たちによるメシアンは純音楽的な名演だ。 (満津岡信育) --- 2004年08月号
