メイヴィスを知ったのはアレサのゴスペルアルバムで2人が共演していて、そのグレイトな低い声に驚かされて大好きになったもんだ。 このアルバムより後に出たWe'll Never Turn Backを愛聴していて気になっていていたが夜に静かに聴かせてくれるアルバムとの評価だったのでなかなか手を出さなかった。 しかし思いきって購入! いやぁ夜以外にも聴けますね。 (1)のブルースチックな曲に続いて(2)はカッコいい感じリズムでノリよく聴かせてくれる。 これはポップ的?で普通にカッコいいと思いますね。(3)は切ない夜に聴くとよい曲(4)は題名通り神秘に満ちた曲となっており続く(5)がまたブルースチックでカッコいい。 これからブルースチックなギターでカッコよく聴かせてくれます! ゴスペルがルーツな彼女は(11)で聖歌隊をバックに感動的な曲を聴かせてくれます。個人的にはこれは感動もので気に入ってます! (12)は人気曲みたいですね。個人的には(11)を最後にしたほうがよかったのに。と思ってます。 全体的にブルースチックなギターでカッコいい感じに仕上がってます。このサウンドは次回作同様メイヴィスの声にピッタリ過ぎですね。 ぜひ買いですよ。これは

情感があふれながら、ベタつかない陽性さが感じられる
稀有な歌手だと思います。
これ見よがしな歌い上げみたいなところもなく、
そのためディープなゴスペルファンとは言えない
(私のような)人達にもオススメです。
Paisley Parkから出た“TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE"や“THE VOICE"で
みられた新しい音作りはみられず、

アコースティックなどが中心の渋めのサウンドでヴォーカルを
じっくり聴かせます。秋の夜長に最適かも。
traditionalのカヴァー5A DYING MAN'S PLEAがとても良いです。
これが売れてPaisley Parkでのユニークな上記2作の方も
手に入りやすくなるとさらにファンが増える・・・などと妄想。

９１１テロに触発されたアルバムとしては最もクオリティーの高い
部類に属する一枚だ。
ジャンル分けすれば一応ゴスペル・ミュージックではあるが
彼女の声は一種の諦念のような哀しみを感じさせる。
｢人間が眠っている時も神は決して眠らない｣と歌う"God Is Not Sleeping"
も神に対する賛美というよりは、そうあってほしいという痛切な祈り
に聞こえる。

静かで深くて説得力に満ちた一枚だ。
