   グレン・ティルブルックは本作を米国ナッシュヴィルと英国ケンブリッジシャーのスタジオで、そのあいだに横たわる文化的な垣根を飛び越えながらレコーディングした。このポップ志向な元スクイーズのメロディーメーカーにとって、まだわずか2作目のソロアルバムだ。その生い立ちを考えれば、彼ならではの英国流の負け犬的な無駄話の中にペダルスチール・ギターで味つけしたカントリー・ミュージックをところどころ忍び込こませていることも、驚くには当たらない。もっともユーモラスに表現されているのは、コーネル・ハードの「パンツを下ろしてしまい」大失敗した「Genitalia of My Love」の意外なカバーだ。

   ティルブルックの物の見方はひねくれている。きらびやかなエレクトリック・ライト・オーケストラの『Out of the Blue』のような雰囲気を持つ「Neptune」では、スクイーズ時代の仲間で今でも仲のいいクリス・ディフォード（本作では「Where Can I Be Your Friend」を共作）のぱっとしないソロ・キャリアに対して愛情のこもった痛烈な言葉を浴びせている。また「Reinventing the Wheel」で嬉々として擁護しているのは、独身男性の楽しみであるマスターベーションだ。けれども「Hot Shaved Asian Teens」はいくらか説明が必要かもしれない。家庭内暴力や親としての責任の放棄について率直な思いを語ってはいるが、ティルブルックのサウンドはこれまでと変わらず心を癒し、軽快で、整然としていて耳なじみがいい。パワーポップのエッセンスを抽出したスクイーズやファウンテインズ・オブ・ウェインとまったく同じく、ここには知的なポップさがある。本作をお勧めするのにこれ以上の誉め言葉があるだろうか。（Kevin Maidment, Amazon.co.uk）

題名を直訳すると、たぶん「大西洋横断卓球」。ですので、グレン本人からすると、曲から曲へとどこか明るくとぼけた雰囲気がヨーロッパとアメリカとのあいだを行き交う感じで曲調が変わっていく感じをリスナーに味わってほしいアルバムなのでしょう。全体的にとぼけたユーモアが漂っているので、泣けるようなアルバムではないです。時代的には現代の音楽のこじゃれたテイスト、最新系のテイストはなく、60年代、70年代の流れにある単純明快な音楽に聴こえました。それも、グレンの感覚が古いのではなく、大人のこじゃれた感覚で狙ってやっているのでしょう。

ほかのかたもお書きになっているように、先行シングルであるトラック１が飛びぬけて印象的ですね。実は、ぼくはこの曲をネットで試聴してこのアルバムの購入を決めました。名曲。ダンサブルあり、ポップあり、ロックありで、最後のトラック12はベンチャーズを彷彿とさせるインストゥルメンタルです。

　３年ぶりのソロ第２弾。前作は打ち込み中心の曲もありましたが、今回はあくまでギター・ポップ。１曲目からグレン節全開です。やはり彼のメロディは無尽蔵！おすすめの１枚です。
　４月にイギリスで観ましたが、このアルバムからも５曲演奏、スクイーズ時代の曲も含め新バンドを従えて全１９曲のステージ。

　１０曲目はクリスと共作で、歌詞も意味深ですが、スクイーズ復活の序曲となるのか…！？

　前作がスクイーズの作品に匹敵もしくは凌ぐほどの快作で、本作も前作の流れを汲む正に「ブリティッシュロック」の模範のような作品に仕上げられている。１曲目はギター、ピアノ、ベース、ドラムの地味な楽器ばかり使われているが、あの声がかぶさるといかにも英国風な渋い曲に生まれ変わる。ポールマッカートニーやデビッドボウイに期待できない現在こんな曲を作れるのはグレンかティアーズフォーフィアーズぐらいしかいないだろう。前作に比べるとコンピューター的な遊びや変化球的な曲は減り、正攻法的な曲が増えているが、じっくり聞かせる曲が増えたと判断してほしい。次作でもビートルズ的名メロディーを追究し、すばらしい作品を作ってほしい。
