   肉体的にはともかく、サウンド的にはその名のとおりの若さを保ち続けているソニック・ユース。すでに23年のキャリアを持つ彼らだが、本作『Sonic Nurse』は最高傑作のひとつと言えそうな仕上がりとなった。前作『Murray Street』より3トラック増え、15分間長くなったが、メロディー重視であることには変わりがない。内容は前作を踏襲したアルバムと言えるだろう。『Washing Machine』以降の作品で強力なスパイスとなっていた奔放な実験精神は今回も抑えめで、隙間なく展開するフィードバックは、スムーズなベースラインやギター・フックと混じり合っている。ある時は鮮烈に、ある時はニヤリとさせるほど巧妙に、耳当たりのよい要素が織り込んであるのだ。

   発想力豊かな4人組の17作目となる本作で、バンドはお得意の3人がかりでのギター攻撃を洗練させ、デリカシーに富んだ表現へと向かう。アップビートなリズムに重なるギター・ラインは、フレット・ボードから殴り込んでくる前に、聴く者を誘惑する。この魅力的かつ脅迫的な調べに、キツいほめ殺しの言葉が乗せられる。とりわけ、ブッシュ叩きソングの「Peace Attack」は辛らつ。大胆なリフレインと息をもつかせぬ演奏が繰り広げられる『Sonic Nurse』は、洗練されたガレージ・ロックを考える上で見逃せない1枚であり、おいしいスリルを約束してくれる。（Christopher Barrett, Amazon.co.uk）

ファンなら聴いて裏切られることはないです。
特に、「Goo」「ダーティ」
そして前作「ムーレイ・ストリート」が好みの方、
間違いないです。
冒頭二曲、キムとサーストンが一曲ずつ歌い終わるころには
満足の笑みを浮かべるはずです。

このバンド聴いたことない、という方にも、
最初の一枚として薦められるストレートさです。

ジム・オルークはより有機的に融合を果たしていますし、
その結果としてエレキギター３本のアンサンブルメイキングは
より周到な感じを受けます。

時に美しく、時に暴力的に。

歴代のアルバムの、良いコンポーズの曲を集めた様な印象。ノイジングや実験的な要素は影を潜め、コンパクトによくまとまっている。G.のアンサンブルもよく練られており、瞬間、「オオッ、カッちょえー！！。」という箇所が何回か有った。もはやSONIC節といった感があり風格さえ漂うが、一聴すると、前述したように、以前のアルバム収録曲それぞれに似て居り、イントロが流れると、”どっかで聞いたことある”感が難。蓋し聞いて損無し。

Sonic Youthは1995年に出たWashing Machineとリタ・アッカーマンの絵が素敵すぎるサーストン・ムーアのPsychic 'sがとても好きでした。ライブもメンバーは皆にこやか（でもキム・ゴードンはそんなににこにこはしてないかも）で、音もすごいし、とにかくかっこいいバンドです。ただ、最近のアルバムはどうなのかなー、と思ったりして、そんなに聴いてはいなかったのですが、この新譜はすごいです。

サーストンのUnmade BedとStones、キムのDude Ranch Nurseが特に気持ちよく、え、もう終わり？というくらい、何度もなんども聴いてしまいます。だいたい一度聴いたら耳に音が張り付きますし。楽器の音ももちろん叙情的ではないし、来日を心待ちにしています。
