ソウルフルなヴィブラフォーン奏者ミルト・ジャクソンとこちらもソウルフル
なレイ・ブラウンの双頭クィンテットのライブ盤です。1曲目の"Frankie　
And　Johnny"はブラウンのベース・ソロからスタートです。この時点でソウ
ル度はかなり高しです。テナーのテディ・エドワーズのアドリブも短いながら

も熱さを感じますし、それに続くミルトのヴァイブがもう最高です！いつもよ
りペダルは使っていませんがとにかく、アドリブ・フレーズがカッコ良しなん
です。ピアノのモンティ・アレキサンダーはもっと評価をされてもおかしくは
ない名手ですし、このクィンテットにピッタリハマっています！"Here's

That　Rainy　Day"ではミルトのステキなバラードを聴く事ができますし、
"Tenderly"はレイ・ブラウンによるベース・ソロが聴き所となっています。
タイトル曲の"That's　The　Way　It　Is"はメンバー全員ソウルの塊り状態
でのミドル・テンポのブルースに仕上がっています。ここでの聴きはテディ・

エドワーズの"コテコテ・テナー"です！ミルトの声でメンバー・紹介も入っ
ていて聴衆も最高に盛り上がっています！ミルト・ジャクソンの数あるアル
バムの中では余り評価されない1枚ですが、ソウルフル・ジャクソンがお好き
な方にはお勧めの1枚です！
