【プロフィール】
1979年、静岡県浜松市生まれ。
1979年生まれの24歳。6歳よりピアノを始め、同時にヤマハ音楽教室で作曲を学ぶ。国内外の「ユニセフチャリティコンサート」「ジュニアオリジナルコンサート」等に多数出演。17歳の時にチック・コリアと共演し、絶賛される。
1998年よりN.Y.に渡り、ジュニア・マンスに師事。1999年バークリー音楽院に入学後、全米各地のジャズフェスティバルに出演し、高い評価を得る。そして、在学中にジャズの名門テラーク・レーベルと契約し、2003年に全米デビューを果たす。同年5月にバークリー音楽院を首席で卒業。
現在も活動の拠点をボストンに置き、全米・ヨーロッパ各地をツアーでまわっている。また、日本国内においても、TBS系全国ネット「情熱大陸（2003.10.19O.A.）」やキリン「モルトスカッシュ」CFへの出演、ブルーノートを中心とした国内初ツアーを成功させるなど、積極的に活動を展開している。

   2003年に『アナザー・マインド』で華々しいデビューを飾った上原ひろみ。なんとデビュー作は第18回日本ゴールドディスク大賞まで受賞した（「ジャズ・アルバム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」）。そしてこのセカンド作だが、03年12月、テネシー州はナッシュヴィルにある有名なスタジオ、サウンド・キッチンでの録音だ。デビュー作発表後のライヴでは、アンソニー・ジャクソン＆マーティン・ヴァリホラとの息の合ったコンビネーションが印象的だったが、これはその3人による演奏（ベースは曲によってトニー・グレイ）。

   まず1曲目、これはライヴで大ウケしたエネルギッシュなテクノ・ジャズ。ブルース・リーやジャッキー・チェンのカンフーをヒントに書いたというユニークなナンバーだ。デビュー作もそうだったが、この人の音楽にはジャズとロックとクラシック（それ以外にもなにやかな）が渾然一体となっていて、幻惑される。テクノ・ジャズからしっとりとしたムードのソロ・ピアノまで、とにかく多彩な音、そして才気煥発を絵に描いたような水際立った演奏が鮮やかだ。（市川正二）

新しいジャズスタイルを感じさせる一枚。
テクノやらエレクトロニカやらとジャズがミックスされて前衛的な音楽に。
彼女のエネルギッシュな演奏は生で体感するのが一番。

1曲目があまりにエレクトリックなので面食らいましたが，それ以降は十二分に楽しませてくれました．2曲目の「If...」，4曲目（タイトル曲）の「Brain」，5曲目の「Desert on the Moon」は特にすばらしいと思います．前作の衝撃的デビューアルバムほどではないかもしれませんが，それでもHiromiのよさがじっくり味わえる一枚．

1stアルバムは間違って普通のCDとSACDと買ってしまったので、今回はSACDを待って購入した。
5.1マルチで聴いた印象は1stと同じで自然な拡がりと高解像度な聴こえ方が印象的。今回はピアノのほかシンセも積極的に使った曲が有り、これはシンセのみぐるぐる回ったり、前後左右に飛び回るパノラマサウンドになっている。自然なマルチとパノラママルチが両方聴けるので、5.1マルチをお持ちの方にお奨め。もちろん2chも優秀な仕上がりだ。
