アコースティック・ギター、一本でジャズもロックもボサノバもクラシックも演奏するほど広い守備範囲と表現力の豊かな音楽の持ち主です。

ギター好きの後輩に教えてもらったのですが、五つの赤い風船の中川イサトさんに師事しており、師匠よりもアグレッシブな演奏をしますよね。マイケル・ヘッジスの影響も受けているそうです。

この『Be　Happy』というＣＤの中に当方の大好きな「ジュピター」が収録されているので、よく聴いています。「これ、本当にギター１本で演奏してるのかな？　多重録音をしていないのかな？」と思うほど素晴らしいテクニックの持ち主でした。なにしろ、オーケストラの全ての音をリズム感よく颯爽と奏でてくれています。これはお値打ちです。愛聴盤になりそうです。

「見上げてごらん夜の星を」のような切なく美しい名曲は、繊細に大切に弾いており、彼の豊かな感性を聴くことができます。

　メジャーデビュー３作目となる本アルバムだが、目新しさはあまりない。昨今、技巧派の名ギタリストとして、さまざまなメディアで取り上げられている押尾コータロー氏であるが、私は彼のすばらしさは曲作りにあると感じる。そのギターテクニックは、目を見張るものがあるが、技術のみであれば彼をここまでメジャーにしなかったであろう。

　美しいメロディーラインを、荒削りではあるが、今までの日本人ギタリストにないテクニックで観客をひきつける。そんな印象をさらに強めたのが本アルバムである。これからももっと美しいメロディーを作り出していってほしい。ただ、彼のすばらしさを理解するためには、ＣＤを聞くよりＤＶＤやライブの方が容易かもしれない。

今回のアルバムでは、今までよりもさらに技巧が充実しています。そのために全体的にとてもまとまりがあって、聞きやすい仕上がりになっていると思います。押尾コータローを始めて聞かれる方には前作の「Dramatic」の方をお勧めした方が良いかとも思いますが、アルバム全体としての完成度が高いのは今回の「Be Happy」だと個人的には思っています。アルバムのタイトルの通り、全体的に幸せ感溢れる雰囲気に仕上がっていますので、天気のいい週末の朝なんかに流しながら休日を堪能するにはこれです。その他、バリトン・ギターを使用したという「ファイト！」や、バイオリンやパーカッションなどを取り入れた「坂の上の公園」など、音楽的に新しい試みをしているので、そういう意味でも楽しいアルバムです。ぜひぜひ、楽しんでくださいませ。
