ジャコ・パストリアス、マーカス・ミラーを引き合いに出さなくてもベーシストの魅力は良く知られるところだが（この2人はプロデュース能力もすごい）、ポール・チェンバースはご存知だろうか？この人はベーシストというより、ベースマンといったほうがピッタリのベース弾き職人である。

精神的・肉体的に充実した時期に制作されたこのアルバムは、まさにベースという楽器の音楽図鑑のようである。
いつでも聞いていたいし、いつまでも聞きつづけたい。

マイルスクインテットを支えたベーシストでもあるポールチェンバースのソロアルバムで彼の最高傑作といわれることも多いアルバムです。いきなり登場する１曲目の弓弾きに代表されるように、ｂをかなりフューチャーした作品になっています。脇を支えるのはｐのハンクジョーンズ、ｇのケニーバレル、ｄｒのアートテイラーら渋い名手たち。また、選曲も、名曲「ディアオールドストックホルム」を始め渋い選曲になっており、ｂという楽器に似合った、全般的に渋いアルバムに仕上がっています。お酒でも飲みながら、その重低音や渋いムードに酔うのに良いアルバムではないでしょうか。但し、冒頭の弓弾きを始め、ｂを延々聞かされるのはたまらなといった方には避けるべきアルバムと思います。
