ベートーヴェンもブルッフも共に、チョンにとっては二度目の録音。ベートーヴェンは、今回はライヴ録音である。旧盤では指揮者のコンドラシンに譲歩しすぎたか、はたまたベートーヴェンということで慎重になりすぎたのか分からないが、彼女の持ち味である閃きに満ちた奔放さがやや欠けていたように思う。個人的にライヴ録音は好きではないのだが、この新盤は、もともとマイクで拾いにくい彼女の演奏スタイルが、とても良く分かる録音となっている。彼女の持ち味である研ぎ澄まされた激しさと厳しさ。限界ぎりぎりでの、その驚くようなバランスの良さに、思わず惹きこまれてしまうこと請け合いである。 ブルッフも、可憐な雰囲気も漂わせていた旧盤に較べて、スケール感のアップした名演奏だ。

　協奏曲というのは、一般的には器楽独奏者の妙技を演奏会場で聞くための曲であることが多いが、このアルバムに含まれるベートーヴェンのバイオリン協奏曲は独奏部分とオーケストラ部分が対等の重さで作曲された稀有の名曲である。演奏者のチョン・キョンファもテクニックに任せてバリバリ弾くタイプではなく、曲想を丁寧に引き出す演奏を得意としているだけに、この曲の演奏者として申し分ない資質を備えている。結果として知性と精神性に満ちた品位の高い演奏が出来上がった。Londonレーベル時代の彼女の録音された音は紗がかかったようにくすんでいて、バイオリンの輝くような高音域が捉えきれていないように思われたが、ＥＭＩに移籍して収録されたこの録音では艶のある音が聞こえる。テンシュテットの指揮も彼女の演奏の特質をよく理解したもので申し分ない。ただし、８９年の録音にしてはオーケストラの音が歪みっぽいのはやや難点である。なお、カデンツァはクライスラー作曲のものが使われている。
　ブルッフのバイオリン協奏曲はロンドン・フィルのオーケストラが少し緩んでいて、ベートーヴェンほどの出来でないのが惜しまれる。こちらは☆四つである。

チョン・キョンファの2度目のベートーヴェンの協奏曲の録音!しかも今回はライヴ録音!‥前回の録音、コンドラシン・VPOとの共演から約10年ぶりの再録音。本当に待ってました!前回は慎重になり過ぎたのか、コンドラシンのスケールの大きな伴奏に比べて、チョンらしくない神経質なヴァイオリンだった。長らく専属だったデッカからEMIに移籍してからのチョンは、出来不出来が激しく心配していたが今回のベートーヴェンは名演奏になった! チョンのヴァイオリンは素晴らしく透明感のある研ぎ澄まされた精緻な響きと、決して粗暴にならない情熱がバランス良くまとまっており前回の録音とは別人の様な完成度の高い演奏だ!テンシュテットの指揮も重心が低くスケールも大きな充実した響きが素晴らしい!第2楽章はもう少し濃い表情漬けが欲しかったが、立派なベートーヴェンだ‥。チョンの悟りきった様なヴァイオリンも本当に美しい!これこそチョン・キョンファのヴァイオリンだ!久し振りにこの協奏曲の名演奏を聴けた気がする‥!ブルッフも再録音だが、オケの響きが薄く、チョンの濃厚なヴァイオリンが浮いてしまって、こちらはバランスが宜しくない!チョンのヴァイオリンはなかなかの出来だが、オケとの一体感では旧盤の方が上手くいっているかな‥。 よってベートーヴェンは満点だが、ブルッフはやや問題があるので星一つ減点。しかしベートーヴェンは最近では最高の録音だ!これからのチョンの演奏に期待したい‥。
