ブルックナーではじめて聴いたのがこの４番です。「ロマンティック」の表題に惹かれてレコードを購入しました。20年以上前の話です。ところが、いっこうに面白くありません。とうとう全曲聞きとおすことなく、ブルックナーの音楽そのものをつまらないものと評価してしまいました。指揮はカラヤンだと思います。田舎の少年（私のことです）は、指揮者でスゴイのはカラヤンと思い込んでいましたので・・

ところがです。後に、ヨッフムの「ロマンティック」を聴いたときの驚きは忘れられません。ワクワクしながら全曲聴きとおすことができました。そして「あれは（つまりカラヤンのは）一体なんだったんだろう」と狐につままれるような感慨をおぼえました。

（もちろんではありますが、カラヤンのブルックナーもすべてが駄目なわけではありません。最晩年ウィーン・フィルと録音したブル８はたいへん素晴らしいものです。）

ブルックナーは、やはり人（指揮者）を選ぶように思います。楽譜どおり棒を振り、アンサンブルを整えて、ハイできあがりとはいかないように思います。超一流のオーケストラを擁しても駄目なものは駄目になるように思います。音楽の呼吸、息遣い、間、・・なにかそのような、表出される音の背後にあるものの方が大切にされないといけない音楽のように思います。

ヨッフムはその背後にある何かを熟知していたということでしょうか・・・この録音もお奨めです。どうぞお試しくださいませ。
