現在、MicrosoftのサイトよりVirtual PC 2004 SP1が一般ユーザー向けに無償で公開されていますので、今までより気軽に利用可能となっています。

私はチョットしたプログラムを作った時の確認用環境として使用し始めました。ＥｘｃｅｌなんかもＶＢＡで業務アプリを組んだときも、使ってもらう相手がWinXP、Win2000またOfficeも2000、XP、2003と色々あります。以前は、自分と異なる環境の人のPCを借りて最終確認をしていましたが、自分のPCで行うことができ便利になりました。

　また、ためして見たいがチョット怖いなと思う体験版とかフリーソフトもメインのＰＣ環境（ホストOS）への影響も心配なく実行できます。まずければゲストＯＳ環境を削除すればいいのです。メイン環境へのゴミ（レジシトリ）とかWindowsが起動できなくなるのではetcの心配はいりません。
　まだ使い始めたところですが今のところ満足しています。

対応OSは windows 2000 pro/XP pro となっていますが、XP home editonでも普通に動作しています。
また、付属の追加機能を使うと画面解像度1600x1200や４：３でない画面サイズも再現できて便利です。（はみ出た部分はスクロールできます）

古いIEのテストや複数バージョンのOfficeでのテストには欠かせないソフトです。
