北欧が生んだ超絶ベーシストJonas HellborgとハイテクギタリストShawn Laneという「超絶コンビ」がインド人ボーカリストとパーカッショニストを従えてパリで行った壮絶なライブ映像です。正直な話、この超絶コンビによる「インド趣味」は例えばアルバム「Icon」あたりを聴いていてもあまり興味をわかず、個人的には敬遠していましたが、そんな偏見もこのライブ映像を見て吹き飛んでしまいました。とにかく超絶技巧のオンパレードで、知らず知らずのうちに惹き込まれてしまいます。特にHellborgとLaneによる一糸乱れぬ超絶ユニゾンは、あの名盤「Time Is Enemy」あたりで聴かれたポテンシャルにも匹敵するほどの激しさを持っています。

Shawn Laneはエレキ、Hellborgはアコースティックベースと以前とはセッティングは変わっているものの、そのド迫力ぶりには、ただ口をアングリとしながら見守るばかりです。改めてこのコンビの凄まじさに驚嘆するのみです。そうするうちに、CDではあれだけ違和感を感じた「インド趣味」も、自然に受け入れられるようになるから不思議です。少しばかり「イッテしまっている」インド人のボーカル、ひたすら連打されるインドの打楽器など、このコンビにとっては「必然」だったのだと初めて得心できました。

この壮絶なライブ映像を見てから、例えば「Good People in Times of Evil」や「Icon」を改めて聴き直してみると、改めてこのコンビの凄さを再認識できること受け合いです。ちなみにカタログでは「リージョン１」と表示されていますが、実際には「リージョンフリー」になっているようで、国産のDVDプレイヤーでも問題なく再生できます。

凄い！凄すぎる。何が凄いっていうと「テンション」の高さだけでもこの映像を見る価値がるっていうほどのもの。
2部構成6曲の作品だが、これだけで一時間以上聞かせてしまう内容の濃さはなかなか無い。セット１の出だしはショーン・レーンのフレーズに若干の違和感を覚えるがそれ以降は彼の持ち味が全開。繊細だが勢いのある細かいフレーズの連発と、自身のフレーズをループさせながらのワイルドなインプロと素晴らしい。ヨナス・エルボーグも超絶テクニックでパーカッションやギターとの高速ユニゾン。ノックアウトだ。

インド人パーカッショニスト及びボーカリストの三人はシャクティのヴィナヤクラムの子供で納得の人選。三兄弟による強力なボイスパーカッションのアンサンブルもこのDVDではひとつの見どころとなっている。ショーン・レーンとヨナス・エルボーグ目当てで見ているといつのまにか独特なインドのフレーズと音世界に飲み込まれてしまう好作品。
インドのパーカッション「ガタム」の素晴らしい音色にもノックアウトされる。

もう二度とライブで再現されることのないパフォーマンスが見られる喜びをこの映像に感謝。

この手のインド音楽ものとなると、どうしても一発もの（一つのコードでのアドリブ）が多く
聴いている側としては少々退屈気味になったりします。
このDVDも若干そう言う場面もあったわけですが、、、
しかし、何よりも特筆すべきは
数分に及ぶインド人3人による＜早口voice Percussion＞でしょう！
これには圧巻されました！凄いです＾＾
以前、マクラフリン＆シャクティーのアルバムの「A Handful beauty」の一曲目のイントロで
聴いた事があるものの、数分に及ぶソレは凄いものでした。
まるで3人が会話しているがの如くの「早口voice Percussion」。
その間、BassのHellborgなんぞゲラゲラ笑いっぱなし＾＾
見ているだけで楽しくなりました。
ただ悲しいかな（楽しいかな）日本人の私としては空耳で・・・
♪「だから誰と誰と誰と誰が竹田？竹田どん？」♪
♪「誰が竹田？武田？高田？」・・・・としか聞こえなくて。。。。

正直、中だるみな部分もありますが美しいナンバーもあり、
今後、ゆっくり見聞きしていきたいDVDでした。
（買って損はしないですね。）

（ただインド文字に似せた英語の装飾文字はちょっと見づらいです・・・）
