イタリアのイル・ヴォーロの1stがデジタル・リマスター、紙ジャケット仕様で登場した。イタリアが生んだスーパー・グループでツイン・ギターにツイン・キーボードと宣伝文句は勇ましいが、聞いてみるとその地味めな仕上がりに驚くことだろう。実際期待ほどは評価が得られず、アルバム２枚だけで解散してしまうのだが、この音楽だからこそかえって根強いファンを生んだのだと思える。歌い上げるというよりは語りかけるようなヴォーカル、華麗なソロはないけれど一音一音が刻み込まれるような演奏は、ヴォーカル中心の曲なのに異様な緊張感を孕む。私の知っている限り、イル・ヴォーロ以外では味わえない音楽だと思う。リマスターにより音がクリアになり、アルバムを覆うイメージとして抱いていたミラノの霧が幾分晴れたが、ケチをつける筋合いのものではないし、それよりも今回対訳がついたのはありがたい。

イタリア・プログレッシブ・ロックの中でも一番すばらしい作品。２ギター、２キーボード、１ベース、１ドラムスという構成上、音が大変緻密である。それでいて、それぞれの音がぶつかり合うことなく美しいサウンドを創り上げている。ソフィストケイトされたサウンドにはプログレらしく濃厚な音、変調、変調子を取り入れたり、中には地中海的なサウンドが聴かれる。長靴の様に南北に長いイタリア、芸術の国イタリアの成せる技か？眼を閉じて聴いていると柔らかい陽光の日射しを肌に感じそうである。全体的な曲のバランス、繋がりも良いアルバムに仕上がっていて、どの曲も文句なし。ヴォーカルについても、低音域、高音域ともに美しく、ソフトで耳に心地よい。イタリア語自体が音楽的な言語であるのもその理由の１つかも知れないが、なんと言っても作詞を担当しているのがイタリアNO1の作詞家モゴールであるというのも大きな要因だ。このアルバムの歌詞はどれをとってもすばらしい内容である。

とにかくどの曲も、耽美的なメロディが美しく、とてもスリリングな展開で、物語性を強く感じる。まったく同じことがもう一つの作品 IL VOLO II にもあてはまる。

シンセも未発達な 30 年以上も前の演奏とはとても思えない表現力。是非ヘッドホンでも使って大音量で浸ることを薦める。

そんな中でも神とも思える白眉は４曲目：La Mia Rivoluzione（魂の変革）。
フェードインするギターリフ、つぶやきのイントロに続いて次第に盛り上がってくるヴォーカルのコーラスとシンセ。もう死んでもイイ。
