２００３年夏に行われた久石譲氏のコンサート（久石譲&新日本フィルペンションファンドコンサート）で新日本フィルと新しくポップス・オーケストラ（有名な映画音楽などを久石氏のアレンジを加え演奏）を立ち上げる事が発表されました。

その為のアルバムです。
夏にはコンサートツアーも行われます。

昨年のコンサートではこの企画に先駆けて「映画００７メインテーマ（今回007 Rhapsodyとして収録されているはずです。）」が演奏されましたが
通常の映画音楽やいつもの久石氏の楽曲とは、またひと味違った新しい局面を見せてくれました。

久石氏はスタジオジブリの宮崎駿監督作品を数多く手がけており、最近では子どもと大人両方が楽しめるコンサートツアーも開催しています。

彼なら即在の映画音楽に新しい命を吹き込んでくれるのではないでしょうか？

久石のオケアルバムでは一番出来が悪い。どれをとっても原曲のほうが良いというのは残念。一番最初に出た『シンフォニック・ベスト・セレクション』がオケのライヴアルバムでは一番良い。その後新鮮味は失われていくばかり。一度、ピアノ＆アコースティックの路線から離れてみてはどうかと思う。こだわっているばかりに袋小路に入り込んでいるのではないか。または絶賛されすぎて、同じような作品しか作れなくなっているのか。時間をかければいい作品が出来るとは限らないが、同じようなレベル＆内容のアルバムを１年に何枚も聴かされるのであれば、数年に１枚でいいから、冒険心に溢れ、新鮮味に溢れるアルバムを聴かせて欲しい。

ポップスオーケストラでもクラシックオーケストラでもなく、また久石譲のコンサートでもなく新日本フィルのコンサートでもない、それらが一つになった新たな形。それがこのWorld Dream Orchestraです。

このアルバムの一つのコンセプトは「真夏のラーメン」で、パワーのある楽曲を並べて鳴らしまくります。今回は自作自演にこだわらず、幅広く他の作曲家の曲を編曲して演奏しており、今までとは少し違った趣を呈しています。また、元ボストンポップス首席奏者で、現在も映画音楽を中心に活躍中のティム・モリソンさんをトランペットのソリストとして迎えており、アルバム中の幾つかの楽曲は彼用にアレンジされています。
個人的には、コンサートのアンコールで演奏された「となりのトトロ」が入ってないのが残念！しかし、この「となりのトトロ」は「オーケストラストーリーズ~となりのトトロ」のものとほぼ同アレンジだったので、そちらで聞くことが出来ます。もちろんWorld Dream Orchestraの演奏ではないですが…。
もう一つ不満な点を挙げると、コンサートのチケットが高いということ。より多くの人に聞いてもらうためにもこの点は改善してほしい所です。

演奏内容の方はというと、今までのアルバムの中でも最高の出来に近い完成度。久石氏とオーケストラの想いがまさに一つになっていることが体感できると思います。新日本フィルのときより確実によい演奏になっています。

あと、このCDの表紙のカットですが、実はこの景色、ツアーの最終演奏会場だった大坂城西の丸庭園からのものとそっくりで、久石氏本人も「とても驚いた」語っていたほど。もちろん、カット作成時には大坂城のこの景色のことは知らなかったということです。

World Dream Orchestraの活動は長期間続けていくそうなので、今後どんな演奏を聞かせてくれるか非常に楽しみなところです。
