   グレアム・コクソンがブラー在籍時にソロ作を作りはじめたとき、そのソロ作は、ソロのかたわらで制作に携わったブラーのポップでメロディアスなアルバムにわざとさからっているように思えた。そうした一連のソロ作は必ずしも悪い出来ではなかったが、ところどころ不必要なまでに不可解で、まるでメロディーを駄目にする何かが潜在的に備わっているかのようだった。だがブラーと永遠に決別したこの5作目のソロアルバムでは、うれしいことに自らも一役買ったブラーのアルバム以上にリラックスしているように見える。すばらしいポップソングが目白押しで、まっとうな評価をしてくれる世界ならば、ヒット曲が数曲生まれそうだ。

   大衆性を持つことにコクソンがもはや尻ごみしていないという事実は、ブラーが商業的に全盛期を迎えた90年代半ばのアルバム『Parklife』『The Great Escape』を担当したスティーヴン・ストリートをプロデューサーに迎えたことからも確認できる。その成果はすばらしい。コクソンとストリートは思うがままに作品に取り組んでいる。「Freakin' Out」は親しみやすくパンクなパーティー・トラックで、ザ・ジャムを思い出させるし、「Spectacular」は欲望についての奔放で愉快な宣言。本作のベストトラックであるファースト・シングルの「Bittersweet Bundle of Misery」は、ブラーの「Coffee & TV」の図々しい盗作だ。コクソンは本作で目ざましい仕事を果たしている。これからも今の水準を落とさずにいられたら、「ブラー時代の活動は、将来の成功を予感させる単なる序章に過ぎなかった」と評価される日がくるかもしれない。（Michael Turner, Amazon.co.uk）

とにかく聴いて驚いたのは、以前の彼のアルバムとは違って、明るい・吹っ切れている・ポップ・ロック・・・と、要するに大衆受けになっている点。ファーストシングルになったBittersweet Bundle Of Miseryは、本当にハッピーな気分になるメロディーと歌詞で毎朝聴いています。もしかしたら、娘の成長がグレアムに影響を与えているのかな？:-)

なんかすごい開放感を感じるアルバムになってる。今までの作品は悲鳴に近い雰囲気だったけどこれは違う。blur時代にブリットポップを築いたパークライフ、グレイトエスケープを作ったプロデューサーを起用したのもこのポップさにつながったんだろうなー。ポップでパンクでロックなアルバムです。反CCCDだからUK盤買いました。

やってくれるなぁ~。

Blur脱退後、初のアルバム。
「Blur」「13｣と内省的な作品が続き、その中でも自らがボーカルを取るナンバーでは
何とかバンドのポップ性をキープしようとしていた姿が、ファンには様々な意味で印象的だったのではないでしょうか。
しかしこの作品以前のソロアルバムを考慮に入れても、まさかまさか、ここまでストレートで弾けまくった作品を作ってくるとは！

1のイントロからして、あの、そうあの誰も真似できないGraham独特のギターが暴れ回り、リズムはいい意味で前のめりで、
ギターロックが好きという人なら間違いなく、心をグッと持っていかれること受け合いですよ。
その後もパンキッシュ、サイケ、ディストーション何でもござれ。
そしてあの決して上手とは言えない（笑）ボーカルも、完成度の高い楽曲の中ではうまい事ルーズな雰囲気を出していてGoodです。

これはいい！って曲は12345678…　すいません、全部でした（笑）
でもそれはお世辞でも贔屓目でもなく、これはWeezerの1stやJellyfishの2ndといった作品と方を並べる程の、
ギターポップの歴史に残るべき傑作だと断言します。

Blur復帰がどーこーなんて、このアルバム聴いたらどうでもいい事に思えてきますよ、本当に。
