これは嬉しい！待ちに待ったという感じの、傑作直球ロック・プロジェクトのリマスターです。しかも予想外の、ボートラ付き！従来版ＣＤはやたらに音のレベルが低く、正直聴けたもんじゃありませんでした・・

Back to Schooldays と They Called It Rock は何と驚き、７７年のＢＢＣライブ音源。前者はグレアム・パーカー初期作の疾走ロックをカバー、後者はニック・ロウ初期のシングルＢ面曲で、ソロ Jesus of Cool のＣＤでもスタジオ版が聴けます。そもそも They Called .. はロックパイル面々での共作となっているので、ココで収録されるのは実に大正解なのです。チャック・ベリー・スタイルを消化しきった（いつもの）エドモンズ節が炸裂！

Crawling From the Wreckage は、８０~８１年のライブとなってますが、この表記は？ちょっと意味不明ではあります。年越しライブでもやったのか？記録があいまいなのか．．．。それはともかく、これもＧパーカーの作品。Ｄエドモンズもソロでやってます。

このバンド（イイ意味で）遊びで始めたものなのに、ニック・ロウがマジになっちゃったんでエドモンズと喧嘩別れになったらしいですが、勿体ないというべきか、これだけでも残してくれてありがとーというべきか。

といっても彼らだけじゃない、ブックレット写真でいうと両脇を固める、テリーとビリーの職人技があってこそ。この２人、ミュージシャンのオーラなさすぎの見た目が、却って侮れません（？）。

　いつかは出て欲しいと思っていたものがやっと出た。個人的にはエルビスコステロ並にボーナストラックの多さを期待してのだが・・・。やっぱり、スタジオテイク物は少ないのでしょうね。
　それでもリマスターだし、ＣＤを取るとデイブとニックがアコスティックギターを持った写真が！（これはかっこよすぎる！？）。
　ボーナストラックのCrawling From the Wreckageは「カンボジア難民救済コンサート」からの１曲。このコンサートは、エルビスコステロやプリテンダーズなども出演しており、ＬＰが発売された他、確かＮＨＫでもそのライブを放送していたはずで、この作品のCD化、DVD化を望みます。

Rock Pileというのはパブロックの双璧であるDave EdmundsとNick Loweのユニット。もともとはDaveのツアーユニット名だったらしいけど、自らがプロデュースしたブレンズリーシュワルツのNickがソロワークをはじめてから、なんとなく二人のユニット的な意味合いに。そしてRock Pileの解散祝い（？）って感じで出たのがこのアルバム。
ぼくはNick Loweは大好きだ。3回もライブに行ったほど好きである。NickってのはBay City Rollersの覆面作曲家をやっていたり、Dammedやコステロをデビューさせたり、デビュー前のヒューイ・ルイスの面倒を見てたりと、実は結構陰の大物なのだが、いかんせん本人のレコードは全然売れない。ライブもバックバンド連れて来れないほどである。
で、このアルバム、まぁ日本で置きかえれば伊藤銀次と杉真理がコラボレートしたような感じのアルバムである。全編ぬるぬるな50年代風R＆R、まったりとピクニックでもしながら聴いていたい感じだ。あぁ寝てしまった、気持ちいい暖かさだねぇって感じでね。ホンワカゆるゆる、楽しいなぁ(笑)。年寄ロックンローラーの同窓会？、あぁ昔は良かったなぁ、俺も髪の毛あったんだぜ、リーゼントでよ、モテたもんだったな、ナンシーはどうした？　あぁ孫の入学式で来れない？　女も孫ができると連れないなぁ。。。。。。。。。
しかし、このアルバムをつくった時、Daveは36歳、Loweにいたっては31歳である。なんでこんなにヒットや金を考えないアルバム作れるんだろうね、売れるって思ってるんかな？　思ってないだろうな。自分たちだけで楽しんでるよな。これこそ悟りの境地なんだろうか？　楽しそうだ、本当に楽しそうだ、When I Write A Bookなんて昔を懐かしんでるボケ老人の境地だ、いやこれは誉め言葉だ。
