いまも昔もその場しのぎなんだよなあ、と、笑いながらも考えさせられる、巧まざる風刺がスパイスになった上質なコメディ。

大津事件、と聞いて正確な経緯がわかる人の方が少ないと思いますが、明治時代にほんとにあったロシア皇太子襲撃事件がこの話の背景設定です。でも他の三谷作品同様、そういう歴史知識は枝葉であり、ある困った状況に立ったひと（ここでは松方正義という総理大臣）の問題解決への試行錯誤と右往左往にだけ注意を払えば楽しめるのです。

作家としての三谷さんにある種の信頼を抱かせるのは、彼が一作一作を「その場しのぎ」で創るのではなく、ある大きな一つの流れというか、一本の太い背骨に貫かれたつくり方をしている点だと私は思います。視聴率は低かったですが「総理と呼ばないで」というドラマをご記憶の方なら、この舞台とあのドラマの呼応をあちこちに感じてさらに楽しめると思います。また、本筋からどんどん離れていく舞台上のズレたやりとりから、議論が議論だか駄洒落の応酬だかわからない「12人の優しい日本人」を想起するかもしれません。繰り返し見てもその都度別の台詞が印象に残る、いいお芝居です。

星一つは、ある意味メディアの宿命でしょうが、画面がやや暗いためただでさえ把握しにくい人物相関がわかりにくいかなと思ったので欠けています。ちなみにこの舞台ライブで観ましたが、もうちょっと明るかったように記憶しています....まあでも、明暗は主観的なのであくまでも私の感じとしてここに記します。

人気脚本家三谷幸喜が思う存分その力量を発揮しています。
舞台は明治時代、伊藤博文や松方正義などが出てくる政界コメディです。

正直な感想を書きます。

私はこの作品を4回しか観てません。（副音声含む）
その上で、私の中では他人に薦めれるものでは
ありません。芝居は生で観るものだとよく云います。
恐らく、生で観れば印象が異なるのでしょうがこのDVD
に限っては正直面白くありません。伊東四朗さんが出る
シーンだけ安心して観られる。といった印象が拭えないのです。
三谷幸喜さんの作品は「出口なし」からほぼ全て観ています。
（アパッチ砦の攻防・決定版も）
なのにこの作品だけは好きになれないのです。

今回、私の中で値段とDVDとのバランスがとれていなかった為、
「表現の自由」に寄りかかって書かせて頂きました。
この批評を見て気分を害された方、申し訳ありません。
最後に、佐藤B作さんが嫌いではないことを残させて下さい。
