青山陽一の前作『jaw』は、ほとんどの楽器を彼一人で演奏した作品だったが、この約2年ぶりとなる9作目『ODREL』は、対照的に全編バンド・サウンドで通している。それもほぼ全曲が同じ4人のメンバーで、ぬくもりのあるハモンド・オルガンのプレイを中心に、生演奏ならではの土臭さやダイナミズムが息づく作品になっている。特に“オドレル”というタイトル通り、ブルー・アイド・ソウル的ファンク~ソウルのゆるやかなグルーヴが際立っていて、この粘っこいリズム感覚は青山ならでは。醒めた言葉が並ぶ独特の歌詞の世界や滑らかなメロディーなど、ソングライティングも相変わらず冴えている。作品ごとにテーマを変えつつ、真にクオリティの高い作品を出し続けている、数少ないアーティストだ。（小山 守）

クールで、ある意味淡々とした大人のロック・アルバム。歌詞も押し付けがましかったり暑苦しかったりすることもなく、それはヴォーカル・スタイルにも通じる。さりげなく嫌味のないグルーヴが全体を包み、不思議な透明感がある。
