見終わった後、いろいろな思いが複雑に沸き起こってきて、泣いてしまいました！

ジェイムズさんが本気の彼氏探しをするテレビ番組です。なかなか「この人」っていう彼氏に出会うことができなかったゲイ男性・ジェイムズはこの番組の企画で15人のステキな男性たちと8日間を過ごし、自分に最もふさわしい相手を探します。けれども実は15人の中には7人のストレートな人たちが内緒で混ざっているのです。ジェイムズはそんなことは聞かされていません。ジェイムズが最終的に好きになる相手がちゃんとゲイだといいなと、ドキドキしながら見ました！
番組の構成上ジェイムズ目線で語られることが多いのですが、他のゲイの参加者たちも本気の恋がしたくて必死！ストレートの人たちも一緒に過ごすうちに罪悪感とか持ってきちゃったりしてその優しさが切ない。みんな幸せになれるといいのに…という気持ちになりますよ。

日本で作るのは無理だろう（というか、必要としないというか、作ろうとは思わないと言う方が正確でしょうか）という設定のアメリカTV番組のシリーズ１のDVD化です。ヘテロではありがちな設定なので、それをゲイ設定に嵌めただけなのでしょうか。

ハンサム/チャーミングなjames(32)が、親友andra（女性です）の助けを借りつつ、パームスプリングスの美しい自然を舞台に、８日間の様々な活動を通して、１５人候補者の中から自分の恋人としてピッタリの１人を探し出す、というのが番組の目的です。そのため、毎日最後には何人かの候補者をリストから削らなければなりません（残したい候補者にだけシャンペンのグラスを渡します、初日こそ全体から３人削りますが、翌日からは３人のグループから１人ずつ削る、ということは、お気に入りの者が３人同じグループに入ってしまうこともありうるわけですね）。

興味深いのは、その１５人の中に何人かゲイのフリをしているストレートの者が含まれていることです。最初、jamesにはこのことは知らされませんし、他のゲイの候補者たちは最後まで知りません。つまり、最後に選んだ者がゲイであれば、２人は祝福されて夢のような旅行に出かけることができるのですが、ストレートの者を選んだ場合には、＄25,000はその候補者の手に渡ることになるのです。選ばれなかった者が去っていくとき、彼らは感想を語ります。そして、視聴者は誰がゲイで誰がストレートだったのかを初めて知るのです。ということは、これは恋人探しのように見えて、ゲイであるjamesのgaydarを試す番組であり、ストレートの者がいかにgaydarを騙してゲイであることを演じ本当の自分を隠す番組であるということでしょうか。それって結局は・・・

ゲイだったら、この設定に怒るんでしょうか？（友人思いのandraがそれを聞いて激怒したように、でもjamesの表情は、そんなこともあるか、っていうかそうに決まってるよな、それがオレの感じてた違和感だったんだ、っていうかそんなの当たり前じゃないか、気がつかなかったオレがバカだよ、って感じでしたけど）つまり、ヘテロの男女の設定でこういう番組が作られたとして、そこにゲイの男女がダミーとして入るというのはありそうもないように思えないでしょうか？しかも、最後に候補者が３人になったところで、その中の１人がストレートであると伝えることで、最後の１対１のデートはそれを探り出そうとgaydarを働かせるものになってしまいます（質問攻め）。それにしても、演技をしてる者を見抜くのはgaydarじゃないですよね。gaydarはゲイであることを隠している者や隠していないが普通の人々の前ではそれを出さないでいる者を見抜くものであって、ゲイのフリをしてるストレートを見抜くものではないのでは？うーん、でもそれがこの番組のいちばんの売りであるなら、やはり、ゲイの人々は怒るんじゃないでしょうか。jamesが本当にいい人のように思えるだけに、余計そう思ってしまうんですが（というより、いい加減で快楽的な人間でステレオタイプのゲイだったなら、この番組に選ばれたはずがないでしょう）。もっとも、最後に誰がストレートか見抜くのは彼にとってそれほど難しくなかったようですし、少なくとも視聴者にはその前々回にわかっていたはずです（バカバカしい、そんなはずがないと僕も思いましたが、そうでしかありえないのも必然でした）。なぜなら、最後の３人の中に必ず１人ストレートの者を残す（ことは絶対に必要だったはずです、もし非常に早い時期にストレートの者が全員排除されていたら番組の意図が台無しになりますから、つまり２日目以降のグループでの選択の理由はそこにあるわけです、ストレートの者を最後まで残すことは絶対のお約束だったはずなのです）ために絶対必要なことといえば・・・（以下略）だから、最後はちょっと拍子抜けだったんですよね。だって、jamesにも視聴者にももうわかりきっていたわけですから。ゲイの視聴者ならこう思うんでしょうね。「本気で最後まで騙せると思ってたのか？この設定アホ過ぎるよ！！」でも、真剣にパートナー探しをしている姿勢は意外と好感が持てますよ。それなりに落ち着いた年齢だから、ということも含めて、日本で同じ番組を作ったらもっと子供っぽく下世話な内容になるしかないでしょうから。リムジンにドンペリニョン・・・羨ましいというか何というか。それはそうとシーズン２があるとして、そこではゲイのフリをするストレートという設定は使えないんじゃないでしょうか？
