リッキー・ファンテのEP盤をタワーで試聴中、
恥ずかしいことに涙で目の前が滲んでしまった私です。
ゴスペルチックなコーラスが入ってる曲もあるので、
それでやられてしまったんだよね。
いくらお薦めとは言え、いきなりALBUMはちょっと・・・とゆー人に
お試しサイズのEP盤はちょうど良いのですが、リッキー・ファンテの場合、そんな警戒心は必要なしです。
骨太なソウルに、きっとあなたは満足するはず！！
自信を持ってお薦めします。
R&Bってどうしても、なんだかんだと新しいものを聴き漁ったところで、
結局は60、70年代までよねーなんて結論づけていた私。
ところがところが。
ジョス・ストーン（←こちらもまだ聴いてなかったらお薦め）の登場にもビックリ鳥肌ものでしたが、
リッキー・ファンテも本物です。
これはスタックスではないかしら？と錯覚してしまう曲調。
50~70年代の大物？と錯覚してしまうほどの歌唱力。
切なくも心地よくかすれた歌声。
独りっきりは楽じゃないぜ♪と歌う時の、声の揺すり方ったら２６歳とは思えないほどの成熟ぶり。
そして国内盤の帯でこのアルバムを絶賛しているアイザック・ヘイズは、スタックスのスタッフだった人。ソウル・チルドレンなんかも手がけてます。
そんな大物のお墨付きをいただいたアルバムだけど、欲をいえば、せっかくの初アルバムなのにジャケがいまいち。
EP盤のジャケは60年代のレコードのようで抜群のセンスだったのに。
（だって甘い声だけがウリの、中途半端なソウルシンガーっぽく見えません？）
けだるいリズム打ちだとか、オルガンの作るムードだとか、
曲の始り方から終り方まで、
とにかく正統派なR&Bが、安心して楽しめる大物新人です。
たまらないからっ！！！

春あたりに輸入盤のＥＰが話題になってリリースされた１ＳＴ。

とても2004年の音とは思えない、古き良きサザンソウル。
かと思いきや作曲にジェシー・ハリスが参加していたりして
良い意味でコンテンポラリーな要素が加わっています。
ホンモノのサザンソウルは聴いたことがないけれど
ソウルに興味を持った初心者にも非常に聴き易い一枚。

とにかく全曲名曲揃いですが、国内のボーナストラックの
１３曲目、アイザック・ヘイズも参加のリミックスが
めちゃめちゃかっこいい！！！！
ピアノの旋律がアリシア・キーズの去年のアルバムを
彷彿とさせる、聴かせるだけでなくちょっと踊れる名盤！

最近のソウル・Ｒ＆Ｂは古きよき時代のものとは全く違うものになっている。
ラジオから流れてくる最新のＲ＆Ｂやソウルは私にとって異質のものであり、もはや心に訴えかけてくるものもない。

だけどリッキー・ファンテ！

友人からのお薦めで、最近のＲ＆Ｂということで斜に構えつつ聴いてみた。

ああ！
イントロから歌声、すでにノックアウト！
これが本当に最近のＣＤ？

古き良き心あるソウル・ミュージック、Ｒ＆Ｂというものがここにあった。

曲はもちろん、シンプルなメロディ。

男に生まれかわるならこんな声で生まれたい、と思った。
