秋の爽やかな雰囲気にぴったりの一枚。
一枚じゃなくて二枚か。
このＣＤで紅葉を見にドライブなんて行ったら最高。
気持ちよすぎです。

朝起きたら、まずｐｌａｙ！
休みの日なんて朝から晩までかけっぱなし。
それくらいハマります。

しかもこの値段。
お買い得。

でも、歌詞は入ってませんよ。

Happy Peopleをラジオで聞いたとき、素直にいい曲だと思いました。60年代から70年代のソウルへのリスペクトが全般に広がっており、ジャケットのアートワークにまでにじみ出ています。個人的には「U Saved Me」Diskの「Three Way Phone Call」が白眉。私自身はクリスチャンではないけど、「神様を信じるのは時としてすごく難しいよ」という問いかけに対する「大丈夫よ、神様があなたを信じているんだから」という答えにはかなりぐっと来ました。神様じゃなくても誰かから信じられているというのはすごく励みになりますよね。

今回のR.ケリーの作品の一枚目は、前作チョコレートファクトリーの明るい部分をそのまま継承・強化している印象。いかにもハッピーな楽曲ぞろい。コードも鮮やかな進行です。一方の二枚目の方はケリーのもう一つの顔のゴスペルのディスク。以前からゴスペルの作品は自己・他者のために多く書いているけれど、今回はポップともシカゴスタイルともつかない独特の曲作りの印象。コードの味付けも以前よりしっかりしていて、キャッチーな楽曲が並んでいるから、よりコンテンポラリーのゴスペルらしいと言えるのかも。ただ、やっぱり音作りのレベルは明確に高いから、ここは流石R.ケリーと言う所。聴き終わった時、ケリー自身きっと大変なことが色々あったんだろうなと思いました(笑)
