　いつもの様にCCCDを避けるべくUK盤ではなくUS盤を注文したのだが、届いたのはVIRJIN盤ではなくオランダ製のEMI盤であった。　とりあえずCCCDの表示はなかったのだが、紙製のスリップ・ケースに入れられただけのチープな両面見開き紙ジャケット仕様であり、前作の「アラジン・セイン」と比べてもかなり見劣りして泣けてくる。　音質は90年発売の米国Ryko Disc（輸入盤）と比較しても劇的な改善はなく、リフレッシュされた程度の印象に留まる。　残念なことに02年のジギー・スターダスト以降続いてきたリマスター再発も惰性となりつつあるようだ。

　一方で上記のようなボーナス・ディスク付きリマスターに並行してボーナス無しハイブリッドSACD化も進んでおり、既に「ジギー・スターダスト」「スケアスリー・モンスターズ」「レッツ・ダンス」が発売されている。　我が家にはCDプレーヤーしかないためSACDの真価は確認できていないが、そこは将来のお楽しみとしてボーナス無しでもハイブリッド盤のCDに聞き入るのもなかなか良いぞ！

　復刻の仕方に不満はあるが、やはりボーナスCDは魅力的であり（収録時間30分、おや？1枚に収まるではないか…）、アルバムの内容自体は申し分ない。　因みに従来どおり詳細なブックレットは付属しており、歌詞も記載されている。　オススメの1枚（2枚組）。

まず、店頭では国内盤も輸入盤もCCCDしか並んでおらず、CDをご所望の方々はネットでこのCDを買うほかありません。
さて、内容については、すでに30周年記念盤が発売されているボウイの『ジギー・スターダスト』、『アラジン・セイン』と比べると、ディスク２の内容が物足りなく思いました。というのも、生々しいライヴ・テイクもデモ・テイクも収められていないからです。
ディスク２収録の、ミュージカル『1984年』のために構想されたデモは、５の歌詞がオリジナルとかなりちがうほかはそれほどオリジナルとちがいません。ただし、残念ながら、ほかの30周年記念盤と同じく、歌詞は印刷されていません。２、７もリミックスという程度。ただ、８はセルフ・カヴァー／2003年ヴァージョンで、『リアリティ』初回限定盤のボーナス・ディスクにも収録。
それでも、ボウイの才能も随所にうかがえます。まず、また新たなキャラクター「ダイアモンド・ドッグ」を創造したディスク１の２。キャッチーなメロディを披露してくれる４、６。『ジギー』の「ロックンロールの自殺者」の続編にあたりそうなトラック７。オイシイ企画（『1984年』）は素直に他人からすぐいただく８、９、10。他人（ブルース・スプリングスティーン）の書いた曲であろうと、自分がいいと思った楽曲はすぐカヴァーするディスク２の４。ディスク２の７は、2002年のベルリン国際映画祭金熊賞受賞作『インティマシー／親密』に、８は『チャーリーズ・エンジェル／フルスロットル』のサウンドトラックに提供されたもので、今でも需要のある不滅で珠玉のメロディの生産者、デヴィッド・ボウイを裏付けているのは、ファンにとってうれしいかぎりです。

4.0 out of 5 stars 永遠に周りつづける骸骨家族の歌, 2004/6/20
ジャケットの印象と違って、ボウイーのキャリアの中では結構地味な扱いを受けている作品。原因としては、バンドを解散して間もなく混沌としていた、ジョージ・オウェルの未亡人にミュージカル化を断られて投げ槍だった、グラムとソウルの過渡期であった、等々ある。が、やはりボウイーひとりでほとんどの楽器を演奏したことによる音の未熟さが原因ではないかと思う。ボウイーのギターは３重にも４重にも塗り重ねられており、音の壁、というよりは音の厚化粧のようでどうしても消化不良になってしまう。アルバムとしては、１９８４からの題材のものにレベル・レベルのようなシングル曲が混在してしまっているため、ちょっと物足りないのは確か。ダイアモンド・ドッグス、１９８４、ビッグ・ブラザー、ロックンロール・ウィズ・ミーは名曲。ボウイーのパーソナリティーはより感じられる。
