鳥山雄司のアルバムで、「世界遺産」と銘打ったものはこれで３枚目となりますが、ロイヤル・フィルとの共演バージョン、打ち込みとエレキ・ギターを中心とした初代のバージョンなど、「世界遺産」番組テーマ曲の網羅度がもっとも高いのがこの１枚です。番組開始前、鳥山氏に作曲依頼があった際はサンプル映像も何もない状況での制作となったそうですが、そんな状況で作られた楽曲が、これほどまでに広がりを見せることになるとは、ご本人も考えてはいなかったのではないでしょうか。リラクゼーション、オーディオチェック用など、幅広いTPOにあわせて、末永く聴いていけそうな１枚です。

　ご存知のとおり、ＴＶ「世界遺産」のテーマ曲や挿入歌を集めたものであるが、とにかく、そのスケールの大きな曲作り、完璧とも言えるサウンドに驚かされる。特にこのテーマ曲「The Song of life」はまさに一度聞いたら忘れられないような名曲だ。かつて、ソロアルバム「Deep City Traveller」にも収められてあったが、ここでは、なお一層の磨きがかかっており、挿入歌の「Away from Home」、「Sea　Foam」等も、メインテーマとのバランスを決して崩すことなくサウンドは冴えを見せていて、彼の並々ならぬ才能を知ることができる。
　さらには、ロイヤルフィル等が奏でるまろやかで雄大な音楽には、どこかにメッセージ（要するに「自然や遺産を大切にしろ」ということ）を感じ取れるようにも思えるのだ。
　鳥山雄司はサウンドプロデューサーとして、これまでに何枚もソロアルバムを出したり、アレンジャーとしても活躍してきたエライ人なのだが、あまりつかみどころの無い、というよりほとんど知らないミュージシャンの１人だった。サウンド（特にフュージョン）的には既に完成したものを持っているのに、肝心のメロディに今ひとつ親近感を持てなかったというのが正直なところだったのだが、今回のこの企画には本当に驚かされるものがあった。個人的には、彼の今後の曲作りに、このテーマ曲のイメージをどこかに持ち続けていってほしいものと考える。ぜひそう願いたい。

世界遺産という恍惚たる、広大な風景を見事に表現している曲ばかりでした。テレビやＤＶＤでしか見たことがない風景は、やはり見たときの感動を風化させてしまうものですが、その感動をピンポイントに鮮明に脳裏に浮かび上がらせてくれます。また、世界遺産を見たことがない方でもムード音楽として、その旋律に身を任すのにもうってつけだと思います。

本心ではあまり知られたくはないＣＤです。独り占めしたいですね。

世界遺産の番組で流れるテーマ曲でイメージを高めていたが、ＣＤの場合は音質も更に良く全体を聞けるので、曲の良さがしみじみと分かる。
