どちらかといえば今回収録の話は、賢者の石に関わるちょっと重いのが3話ですが、あえて、番外編といえる「焔VS鋼」をイチオシします！作画レベルもいいし、程よいおちゃらけぶりもあり、なによりもマスタング大佐の「こ憎らしい」姿がなんともツボです。さっぱりした顔立ちだし、声優も変にミーハ-人気あるわけでもなく、程よく渋い。でも、なんともいえない「カッコ良さ」に惹かれます！あの切れ長の目で「ふっ」と呟く姿なんか、大人のようで童心も見え隠れして、すごく魅力的な人物像に描かれアニメスタッフや、声優の大川透さんに、心から感謝します！

今、話題のハガレンですが、11話と12話の砂礫の大地は小説のアニメ化で個人的に気に入ってます。偽兄弟の苦難や葛藤が丁寧に描かれてて好きです。弟のフレッチャーが可愛くていい！13話も14話も見応えがあって楽しいです。何かと暗くなりがちなハガレンですが、この4巻は特にお薦めです。

数あるハガレンの話の中でも上位にランクインする「焔ｖｓ鋼」が収録されているＶＯＬ.4。マスタング大佐とエドの絶妙な掛け合いが何度見てもあきません。
