　２００８年グラミー賞主要５部門をゲットしたエイミワインハウスは、そのセカンドアルバム「バック・トゥー・ブラック」でＲ＆Ｂ歌手の印象が強いが、ファーストアルバムである２００３年の本作品「フランク」を聴けば、天才的なジャズシンガー（正確に言えばソウルジャズ）でもあると判明する。
　彼女は、飲んだくれの上、奇行愚行の目立つお騒がせセレブらしいが、今の時代では、結局それで損していると思う。しかしもう世界の桧舞台に立ったのだ。
　ジャズを新しい観点から研究している曲作りで、アルバムはとても一人の人間が作曲したとは思えない。詞は実に個性的で今風。でも音楽の基本をきっちり捕らえているので、聴き方によっては古い曲にも聞こえてしまう。
　歌唱法もスキャットなどジャズの基本を押えている。誰に似ているかといえばカナダのジャズ歌手、ホリー・コールだろう。堂々としてドスの効いた通る低音。ホリー・コールは２０００年ころの作品でビートルズの曲を採用してニュージャスに向かいいい感じだったが、最近は加齢のせいかスタンダードに回帰してしまっで残念と思っていたところだ。ある音楽評論家はホリーの歌を「キャバレー・ソング」と評していた。こう捕らえるとエイミーの活動が理解できる。
　エイミーはシンガーソングライターで、何と１９歳当時に本アルバムの曲を書いている。末長くジャズの世界でも才能を発揮するに違いない。本作品を★４にしたのはグラミー賞受賞の「バック・トゥー・ブラック」が★５だからで、飽きのこないアルバムはこちらのほうかもしれない。

ラジオでTake the Boxを聴いてから興味半分で買ったＣＤ。もう何度聴いても飽きません。エイミーのニーナ・シモーンっぽい独特の歌声と、歌詞の内容に出ている、英国人得意のブラックユーモア。彼女の将来を楽しみにさせるデビュー作です。100%お勧めです。

綺麗なお姉ちゃんのオシャレソング集と思っていた。
綺麗なのは確かだけど、それだけでなく力強い声。
やられます。音量をつい、あげてしまう。引きこまれます。
しばらくステレオを切れそうにない。
