    BUMP OF CHICKENというグループに、私は興味がありませんでした。
    恥ずかしいことに歌唱力のことばかり気にしてしまう私の性格が
    今日までBUMP OF CHICKENの音楽を遠ざけてきました。

    しかし、聞いてみて評価が一気に変わってしまった。
    歌詞の、そのメッセージ性の強さは勿論、
    ヴォーカルの藤原氏の声に圧倒されてしまった。
    決してスバ抜けた歌唱力があるわけでもないのだが
    何か、惹かれるものがある。
    歌が上手いとは、単純にテクニックがあるとかそんなものじゃなくて
    心に訴えかけるものがあるかどうかだと
    BUMP OF CHICKENが、THE LIVING DEADというアルバムを通じて私に教えてくれた。

    このアルバムは一つ一つの曲が物語のようになっており、それらが集まった短編小説集のように作られています。
    人間ならば、生きている限り一度は味わう絶望・孤独・挫折、失恋の痛みや愛する人を亡くした悲しみ。こういうものを感じた時、この物語に触れてみてください。
    少なからず、心がやわらぎます。
    ｢グングニル」では夢を追いかけて飛び出した冒険者から元気をもらい、
    ｢Ｋ」では自分の命と引き替えに、世界でたった一人だけ自分を愛してくれた友人との約束を果たす黒猫から勇気をもらい、
    ｢Ever　lasting　lie」では愛する人を救うために砂の海を掘り続ける男から、運命と闘う人間の強さを教えられます。
    最近、歌手のスター性だけで音楽の良し悪しが決まるようですが、本当に優れた音楽とは人の心を動かし、逆境から立ち上がらせる力を持っています。
    それはまさに、このアルバムのことであり、BUNP OF CHICKENの音楽のことではないかと思います。
    「いろいろ辛い事もあるけれど、それでも生きていくことはできるんだ」という彼らのメッセージがここに込められているようです。

    音楽を聴いて初めて泣いた。コトバの魂に感情が揺さぶられる感覚。深い人生観
    がなくては描けない詩世界がそこにある。人生調子よくいってるときには解らなかっ
    たんだけどな。挫折したり、学校で嫌なことがあったり、泣きたくなるようなときにそ
    っと手を伸ばしたくなる、そんな音楽。

    演奏が上手いからって感動するんじゃない。それがよくわかった。僕にとって物語
    のような、宝物のようなアルバム。
