50代の男です。グレープ時代の曲が大好きでこのベスト2に収録された懐かしの曲たちに再会しました。

その中の大好きな「フレディもしくは三教街~ロシア租界にて~」について少し・・・。

愛の歌です。ただ、その歌のメッセージはもっと深いところにあります。
♪フレディあなたと出会ったのは　漢口（ハンカオ）♪ではじまり、大好きなフレディがおじいさんになり、私がおばあさんになるまで、幸せに一緒に暮らしたいと願いをもった女性の語りを歌にしています。

歌詞に歌われた「漢口（ハンカオ）」という地名は、中国にある今の武漢です。フランス租界やロシア租界という歌詞でもわかるように、日中戦争前の「漢口（ハンカオ）」が舞台です。

そんなステキな街のステキなカップルの平和な日常が描かれていましたが、ラストで悲しい結末を迎えます。愛する二人の夢さえも奪っていく象徴として「戦闘機」という歌詞が歌われます。日中戦争当時、南京が陥落した後、蒋介石は武漢に政府を移します。そこへ日本軍は航空兵団によって空爆を行い、武漢は陥落しました。1938年10月のことです。

もし、戦争がなければ、まったく違う人生を送れたはずなのに、という激動の時代を生きなければいけなかった人々の切々とした願いがこの歌には込められています。平和の大切さをこのようなやりきれないラヴ・ソングで語らせているのです。

ただのラヴ・ソングだけに終わらないのがグレープ時代の「さだまさし」の個性でもありました。物語は架空の設定ですが、このような情景は現在でも世界中で起こっています。声高に平和を叫ぶのではなく、まるで映画のワンシーンのように情景を鮮やかに描いたさだまさしの素晴らしさに拍手、拍手。

誰もが一度は耳にしたことのある曲ばかりのベスト「１」に比べ、“２”＝“通”と、かけことばになるほど、ファンの間で根強い人気曲を集めた作品集です。
学生時代にはじめて聞いた一曲目「主人公」の
「自分の人生の中では、誰もがみな主人公」
という言葉が、それから年を重ねた分、熟成し、若い頃とはまた別の意味で心に沁みました。
また、「償い」は、少年の暴行事件の判決の際、少年達に心からの反省を促すために、裁判長が判決後、この曲を引用して「償う事」の重さについて異例の説論を行ったことで話題になりました。
「償い」「檸檬」「フレディもしくは三教街」「セロ弾きのゴーシュ」・・・こうして集めると、どの曲も、音はもちろん、選び抜かれた言葉の美しさとその物語性に驚かされます。
有名になりすぎた曲ばかりの第一弾より、むしろ先入観なく、はじめての方にも、さだまさしの世界を楽しめる一枚だと思います。

愛と命についての名曲を集めた一枚。さだまさしファンならずとも一度は聞いて欲しい。特に一曲目の「主人公」は最も人気のある一曲、「小さな物語でも、自分の人生の中では、誰もがみな主人公」のフレーズに勇気をもらう人も多いのでは？少し日々に疲れた人、切ない恋をしてる人、誰かを大切にしたい人、この一枚はお勧めです。
