   反ユダヤ主義だとか、キリストのメッセージをダシにして耐えがたい流血シーンで映画を盛り上げているだとか、非難されながらもメル・ギブソンは、3000万ドルとスーパースターとしての名声を、イエス・キリストの死と復活を描いたこの丹精を込めた血なまぐさい映画に賭けた。けれども映画内のセリフが当時実際に使われていたアラム語、ラテン語、ヘブライ語で通されているとあっては、ジョン・デブニーの音楽が物語の中心的な役割を担うことになったのもなおさらだ。

   デブニーは作曲家としてはある意味ユニークな選択をしてきた（軽いコメディや子ども向け映画の数々でキャリアをスタートさせた）が、それにもかかわらずこの難局をうまく切り抜け、冒頭ではシンセを多用したサウンドを作りだしている。そのゴシック調のムードは、リサ・ジェラルドの作品の称賛者にはおなじみのものであり、土着の楽器や、とどろくパーカッション、古風なスタイルで味付けすることで、はっきりとした時代背景と地理的感覚を音楽にあたえている。本作より前に公開された事実上の姉妹篇『The Gospel of John』でのジェフ・ダンナの音楽と同じく、最終的にはデブニーはハリウッド的な合唱とメロディーの伝統に屈している（『The Gospel of John』はほぼまちがいなくハリウッドの神々しい三幕構成の基礎を築く助けになった）。

   この歓喜と贖罪の音楽は、古代の精神的な神秘主義が混迷をきわめた時代に根ざしていて、安っぽいところなどまったくない。映画におけるギブソンの視点は、批判を浴びそうな意味づけや選択を数多くはらんでいるが、情感に訴える豊かな音楽は、デブニーの耳に何ひとつ間違いがないことを教えてくれる。（Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com）

映画をより素晴らしいものにしているのはやっぱり音楽ですね。
どうしてこんなにシーンに合った音楽を作れるのだろう？と疑問に思ってしまうくらい・・・。
私の好きなのはマリアがイエスにかけよるシーンのMary Goes to Jesusと、復活のシーンのRessurectionです。
どれも、聴いているとシーンが思い出されて涙が出るほどです・・・。

早く本編のDVDが出て欲しい！

映画を見てからこのCDを聞く事が一番お勧めです。映画を見るときはあまりにも残酷な場面が多すぎて音楽なんか全然耳に入らなかった。でも映画後、ゆっくりこのCDを聞くと本当に感動しました。特に２曲目の「試練に耐えて」です、聞く度に泣けます。

映画をより素晴らしいものにしているのはやっぱり音楽ですね。
どうしてこんなにシーンに合った音楽を作れるのだろう？と疑問に思ってしまうくらい・・・。
私の好きなのは9曲目のマリアがイエスにかけよるシーンのMary Goes to Jesusと、15曲目、復活のシーンのRessurectionです。
どれも、聴いているとシーンが思い出されて涙が出るほどです・・・。

早く本編のDVDが出て欲しい！
