近田春夫氏は時代の音を嗅ぎ分ける嗅覚が優れていて、ニューウェイヴ、ヒップホップ、ハウスをいち早く取り入れてしまう。プラスその音に無理のない日本語詩を乗っけてしまう。これはやはり才能だと思います。このベストではそのへんのアイデアの結晶は充分堪能できるし、１９７０年代後期以降の音の変遷を理解する時代考証としても価値があります。しかし僕にとって、歌手としての近田春夫氏の魅力はイマイチ。収録曲「シンデレラ」はクールスのバージョンの方が不良っぽくて好きだし、「金曜日の天使」は面影ラッキーホールのカヴァーの方が垢抜けなさ具合がリアルで楽しめます。

なぜビブラと、歌謡曲近田が一緒になっているのだ。ビブラの功績はすべて近田のものか？２つを一つにするなら、もっと丁寧な説明がいる。音もなにもぜんぜん違うじゃないか。このジャケットはなんだ！この売り方はなんだ！！ビブラの音楽活動が誤解を招くじゃないか。近田を音楽家として認めているなら、こんなパッケージは出てこない。不愉快だ。

待ってました。やっぱ近田は天才！彼は常に時代の先端をイッテイタ。
文章もスピード感のある類まれな文才の持ち主。音楽はセールス的にはいまいちだったが、それもラディカルの証。やっと時代が彼に追いついた？いや彼はその先をいっているかもしれない。とにかく絶対買いの一枚である。俺は最先端を行っている貴方にこそ聴いて欲しい。
