とうとう発売されたDVD-BOX!。この「バビル２世」の原作は子供の頃にかなり読み込んだものです。で、このオリジナルシリーズのアニメですが、はじめの数話はかなり原作に忠実。ただ、途中からバビル２世は詰襟学生服ではなく奇妙なコスチュームを身につけ、"バビル２世号"なる乗り物に乗って空を飛びます。うーむ、ロプロスに乗って飛ぶところがかっこ良かったのに・・・。さらには後半のシリーズでは北海道の「ワタリ牧場」なる場所を舞台に展開するというトンでもなさ。「ここまで原作と話が違っていたのかなぁ。」と今回このBOXを買って思ってしまいました。なんせ、まだ幼い頃に見た番組だったもので記憶に残ってなかったんですね(笑)。とはいえ、現在の年齢になって再見してみると新たな発見があるもので、イプシロン星人なる宇宙人が登場する(実はヨミのロボット)エピソードの初めの部分は映画「地球の静止する日」のパクリだったりして苦笑いしてしまいます。

なお、このレビューを最初に投稿した数日後原作者の横山光輝氏が永眠された。今まで私たちに夢を与えてくれて本当にありがとう。合掌。

1970年代の後半に日本中を席巻し、今につながる「アニメブーム」の最初の波の中で、特に女子中高生ファンが熱狂した作品。横山光輝の原作およびこの最初のアニメ化作品は、当時の思春期の少年少女に大きな影響を与え、そこから多数のアニメ・マンガのクリエイターが育った。「ジョジョの奇妙な冒険」の第3部が、「バビル2世」へのオマージュであることは有名。また、この後「バビル2世」は2度リメイクされるが、やはりこの73年版アニメがいちばんとの声多し。
とにかく、最近のアニメにありがちな説教臭さとか胡散臭い理屈がなく、純朴な子供心を刺激されることは間違いなし。オープニングとエンディングは、アニメ史上の最高傑作だと思う。主題歌も名曲中の名曲だし、廉価版ならこれはもう買い！です。

神谷明も、今と少しも遜色ない少年声も初々しかったですが、
３つの僕の1人、なんにでも変身するロデムの、普段の姿とも
いえる黒ヒョウ時の声が野田圭一さんで、その甘さと渋さの
織り交ざった独特の色気がたまりませんでした！

「バビルさま」「ロデム！」と、2人のセリフの掛け合い
を聞いてるだけでも、その美声ぶりにウットリです。
