東京物理大学戦略ネットワーク研究室の研究生、白瀬慧（中井和哉）。日ごろは怠惰な生活を送っているかのように見えるすっとぼけた彼だが、実はどんなハッキングでもやってのけるハッカーとしての裏の顔があった…。天才ハッカーの活躍を描いたTVアニメの問題作。2003年の初放映では1話を3分割した15分バージョン全15話が、再放送で30分バージョン全5話がオンエアという特殊放映形態も話題になった。金銭になびくことはなく、パソコンのパーツやオタッキーなレア・アイテムを報酬に仕事を引き受けるという主人公をはじめ、各キャラクターの設定などが非常に魅力的でおもしろいが、さまざまな伏線を張り巡らせつつもそれらを解決させることなく、特に最終話は数々の謎を残したまま、あっさりと終わってしまったあたりも、ファンの賛否を呼んでいる一因か。いつでも続行可能な、しかし続行しないからこそ伝説にもなっている不思議な作品ではある。（増當竜也）
