自然な言語処理に基づいて文章を論理的に解析する英文法チェックツール。独自に開発した自然言語処理技術で文章の構文を分析し、次に行為とそれに関連する人または物の分析を解析するため、正確に文法や構文のエラーを発見して訂正することができる。また、書類全体、選択範囲内、またはタイプと同時に文法のチェック指定をすることや、短縮形を完全な文章にしたり、逆に短縮形にしたりすることも可能。さらに、句読点、名詞と動詞、冠詞と名詞、動詞と修飾語の呼応など様々なチェック基準設定をして、ユーザー独自のチェック基準の追加も可能。エラー箇所へのリンクを容易にするドロワー、辞書・類義語アシストドロワーを搭載。キャピタライズなどに関する自動訂正機能、スペル辞書への単語の追加や削除を行うディター機能を追加。そのほか、医学、HTMLスペル辞書を追加し、オーストラリア、英国英語、カナダ、フランス語、ドイツ語およびテクニカルスペル辞書を更新している。MacOS X 10.3 Pantherに完全対応。

機械翻訳に似て、どこまで信頼できるか半信半疑で買いましたが、けっこういけます。解っていても、たまに忘れてしまう時制一致・三単現・冠詞は、もちろん。学生用には、平凡な単語に対して、ハイレベル単語を提案してくれます。他、口語体・通俗すぎる表現の指摘、逆に堅苦しすぎる表現の指摘など、ネイティブスピーカーにチェックしてもらっているような便利さがあります。というか、ネイティブスピーカーも使うように作ってあります。読ませる相手に合わせて、提案基準を細かく調整できるオプションスイッチがあります。
これを書いている時点では、オンラインでバージョン1.71へ無料アップグレードできます。
どこまで信じるかは、機械翻訳と同じ。要は、ユーザー側の工夫次第だと思います。四つ星にしましたが、Macでは他に選べないので、強くお奨めします。気軽なメールにも固い論文にも、とても便利です。
