Beginning as a house band and understudies of Booker T. and the MGs with STAX Records in Memphis in 1966, The Barkays potent dynamic sound would carry them to a chart topping perch the very next year with their first smash single "Soul Finger". After the tragic death of four band members in an airplane accident while touring with Otis Redding, the surviving members have reformed and rebuilt the band with no diminishing of the standards of professionalism and showmanship. The Barkays have released 27 LPs, including 5 gold and 1 platinum, 37 single releases, and 20 top ten singles.
