   掛け値なしの奇才にしてマルチ・プレイヤーであるジョン・オンドラジックがファイヴ・フォー・ファイティングというバンドっぽい名前でリリースした3作目のアルバムだ。『The Battle For Everything』では、『American Town』で発揮された彼の怒りっぽさが少しばかり薄まっている。ただし、今回はやや身近な事物が標的に選ばれた。

   今にもキレそうなオープニング・トラック「NYC Weather report」で、オンドラジックは不実な友人や悪行をデフォルメして描く。奇妙にもガンズ・アンド・ローゼズの「Paradise City」とバーバラ・ストライザンドの「People」の2曲を引用することで怒りの対象を徹底的に紛糾したかと思えば、その後は人間の一生、束の間の人間関係、さらにはディズニー・ランドまでを標的にするという具合。しかし、オンドラジックが才能と創意とたくましさを全開にするのは、「Girlfriends and Angels」からだ。彼はビーチ・ボーイズとヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンドが出会う場所を見つけ出し、そこに根を下ろして、ようやく会得したロマンティックな人生哲学を披露する――ミイラ取りがミイラになるのはいつの世も同じだ、と。下世話さ、サウンドの新鮮さ、歌詞の切れ味がアップした本作を聴く限り、オンドラジックはひとまず闘争の日々を終えたようである。（Jaan Uhelszki, Amazon.com）

2004年2月3日リリース。3枚目のアルバム。ファイブ・フォー・ファイティングとはホッケーの試合でペナルティーボックス入りの事を指す、で、題名が『The Battle For Everything』だからかなり好戦的だ（●＾o＾●）。

彼の(このバンドは実際はLA出身のジョン・オンドラジックただ一人である)標的は曲の題名に表れていて、ディズニーランドから何から広範囲に及ぶようだが、曲全体は優しさに溢れ、うらはらである。
曲としては4の『100Years』と2の『The Devil in the Wishing Well』が特にイイ。4のファルセット・ボイスは特に最高でシビレる。
最近の特にお気に入りの一枚です。

まず何より声がいい。特にファルセットは現代の音楽シーンでは最高峰の実力ではなかろうか。気持ちいい歌声に乗せられてぼんやりするのもいいが、歌詞にも神経を集中する必要がこのアルバムにはある。

"100years"のような雰囲気の曲だけを求める人には決してお勧めできない。このアルバムには透明な泉も溶岩流れる火山も無機質な街もある。子どもの宝箱には大人には理解できないものばかり入っているが、このアルバムは子どもの理解できないもので一杯の大人の宝箱という雰囲気がする。

想像以上にピアノが脇役の曲が多いが最強の隠し味になっているのでご安心を。４，６，１２あたりがおすすめ。
