｢胸騒ぎと共に眠りについた夜更け…」
いつもとは明らかに違うayuの歌い口調に、ハッと顔を上げさせられました。
あまりにもリアルで生々しいその歌詞。当時父を亡くしたばかりの私にとって、
ラストナンバーのMemorial addressは少々辛いものがありました。
その時の私と、非常に似た状況が歌詞に描かれていたから。
父が亡くなった時の悲しみがありありと蘇って来て、何度コンポの電源を
切ろうと思ったかわかりません。でも切れなかった。
ayuの気迫に圧倒され、ボロボロに涙を流しながらも最後まで聴きました。
そして思い出しました。初めて｢A Song for××｣を聴いた時も、私は同じようになっていたと。
そこからこの人を好きになったのだと。
世間で何と言われようと、この人はやっぱり何か違いますよ。他人の詞で泣いたのなんて、
浜崎あゆみが初めてだもの。

デビュー時からずっと好きだったのですが、
この作品のリリース前あたりは伝えたいことも無いのに
無理矢理CDつくってる感じで嫌いになりかけてました。

しかし「ANGEL'S SONG」での屈託のない歌い方に
今までと違うものを感じ惹きこまれ、
全体としてもまとまりがあって良い作品だと思えました。
そして何と言っても最後の「Memorial address」が衝撃でした。
自分自身あの歌詞と同じような想いを持っているので、
あの歌を歌ってくれた浜崎はやはり自分にとって
特別な存在だと再認識することになったのです。

確かに一つ一つの楽曲の質はそれほど高くないかもしれません。
しかし通して聴いたとき、不思議と満足感があります。
結果論ではありますが、次の「My Story」の完成度の高さを考えると
このミニアルバムを出して正解だったでしょう。
リリース当時は「無理にミニアルバムとして出さなくても…」と
思ったりもしましたが、
「My Story」を一からつくるために出して良かったと思うし、
純粋にこの作品を気に入ってまた浜崎を好きになれた
自分にとって思い出の作品です。

忙しい日々に埋もれかけていた浜崎あゆみの魅力を彼女自身が取り戻した作品だと思う。
「Memorial adress」は初期の頃の胸を突くような切ない歌詞の世界が広げられていて正に名曲。
その一方で「Because of you」や「ANGEL'S SONG」のような今に繋がる作品が収められていて、聞き応え十分な内容。
