   荒川弘作品を原作に、2003年より放送されたファンタジーアクションアニメ作品。エドワードとアルフォンスのエルリック兄弟。彼らは亡くなった母をよみがえらせるために、禁断の錬金術「人体錬成」を行うが失敗。その結果、兄のエドは左足を、弟のアルは肉体を失う。アルの魂を鎧に定着させることで命は助かるものの、それと引き替えにエドはさらに右腕までも失うこととなり、兄弟は失ったものを取り戻すために旅立つ。
   2人の冒険とそれに伴う成長を軸にしつつ、何かを得るためには何かを失わねばならない「等価交換の法則」が背景に存在するという、一風変わった、しかし極めて現実的な設定を持つ世界観が、前向きなドラマと相俟って魅力的。（田中 元）

原作は、ハードなストーリーを原作者のギャグやお遊び的な要素で上手く中和しているのでとっつきやすく、いい感じでまとまっている。それが故、人の死とか、悲しい描写は一層引き立つ。アニメは、その中和があまり無いので話全体が重苦しい印象を受け、見ていて息が詰まる感じが時々あった。

　原作が好きな人は違和感を感じる所もあるかもしれないがしかしながらアニメの作りは非常に良く、作品に掛ける製作者の意気込みはひしひしと伝わってくる。ＴＶオリジナルの話もあり、見ごたえはあると思う。
　いずれにしても今後に期待

兄と弟が錬金術を使い母を蘇らそうとおこなった「人体練成」。
禁忌とされている練成を実行した２人に待っていた余りにも悲しい結末、兄は片手と片足を失い弟は肉体を失った・・。
兄が「鋼の錬金術師」と呼ばれるのはオートメールという義手と義足を持つ事から由来している。

第１話は既に国家錬金術師の資格を得て旅をする２人が「死者が甦る」との噂を聞き
「神の御業(かみのみわざ)」と称されるその力は、２人が捜し求める「賢者の石」に違いないと街を訪れる。
そこで知り合ったロゼという女性は、その力を信じ恋人の復活を望んでいた。

ＴＶアニメ化の情報を聞き、さっそく第１話から視聴開始。

原作の良さを人から聞いていただけに期待を込めて観ていたら見事にハマってしまった。
全５!２話で構成されるとの事だが、観れば観るほど期待させる内容は
一年先の土曜の予定を決めてしまってもイイと思わせてくれるほど。

漫画には漫画のアニメにはアニメの面白さがある。
そういった意味では、この作品は良く出来ている。
原作とは少し変えている所がありますが、アニメから入った人には問題なく見れます。
漫画を知っている人は、その違いをかみ締めながら見ると面白いかも？
クオリティ的には、前番組のガンダムＳＥＥＤより優れていて力の入りようが感じられる。

また、ＯＰ・ＥＤの曲もよく出来ていて好感が持てます。
期待できるアニメ。
