S&Gをとりあえず聴きたい方にはおススメできるベスト盤です。
彼らの代表曲がほぼ時代順に並んでいますし、収録曲は納得の名曲ばかりです。便利な一枚です。
また、解散後に二人で録音してそれぞれのソロアルバムに収録した「マイリトルタウン」も入っていて、気が利いています。
「あの曲が入ってない」「この曲も聴きたい」という方は、オリジナルアルバムでどうぞ。

30数年前の曲なのに、今聴いてもあの当時初めて聴いたときの衝撃と、新しい感動がよみがえってきます。
もっとも本当の名曲とはそういうものなのでしょうが・・・
｢サウンド・オブ・サイレンス｣｢ミセス・ロビンソン｣｢スカボロー・フェア｣では映画｢卒業｣の名場面が懐かしく思い出され
後にドラマ｢人間・失格｣で｢冬の散歩道」がテーマソングになったときもとても新鮮な驚きがありました。

昔は哲学っぽい部分もあって難しいと思った詩の曲もあったのですが、今改めて訳詩を読むと実に奥が深く
ただメロディとハーモニーの美しさに、ひたすら聴き入っていたころに比べると、今はじめて深い部分で理解できた気がして、しみじみと感動を覚えました。

ベスト集というと、ライブからの収録が多い場合があり、拍手の音が気になったりするものですが、このアルバムでは、ライブ・ヴァージョンは「エミリー・エミリー｣一曲のみなのでほとんど気にならないと思います。本人自らが選んだ選曲というだけあり、どの曲も素晴らしく｢明日に架ける橋｣、｢ボクサー｣など、すべてが珠玉の名曲ぞろいなので、本当にお勧めです。

これ一枚でずいぶんサイモン＆ガーファンクルを知ることが出来る。
言わずとしれた「サウンド・オブ・サイレンス」「明日に架ける橋」「ミセス・ロビンソン」「スカボローフェアー」などの名曲。
ガーファンクルの歌声と、サイモンのギター＆コーラスが絶妙に絡み合い、非常に心地よいサウンド。

知らない人でも、どれかは聴いたことあるはず。全く知らなくても気に入るはず。
すばらしい音楽を作るバンドは、時代を超えて輝くものだとつくづく実感。
