   都市生活者ならではの粋な世界観を描き、70~80年代の日本のシティ・ポップ・シーンをリードした南佳孝。彼がはっぴいえんどの解散コンサート“CITY Last Time Around”（73年9月21日）に出演した同日にリリースされた記念すべきデビュー作『摩天楼のヒロイン』から、ちょうど30周年にあたる2003年に編纂されたのが、初の2枚組ベスト盤となる本作。

   89年の『東京物語』までの最も充実していた約16年間のキャリアが俯瞰できる決定版といえるもので、これまでなかなかCD化される機会のなかったシングル・ヴァージョンが数多く収録されているのがうれしい。ヒットした「モンロー・ウォーク」「スローなブギにしてくれ」以外にも良い曲が満載で、若いクラブ世代には「ソバカスのある少女」「日付変更線」「THE TOKYO TASTE」あたりが特にオススメ。作詞家・松本隆の代表的仕事としても決して外せないのが、この南佳孝だ。（木村ユタカ）

どれをとってもマスターピースとしか言い様もない傑作集である。松本隆が「はっぴいえんど」時代よりもより純度を高めた詩を提供したロマンティシズムあふれる「摩天楼のヒロイン」、ボサノヴァやレゲエを自然にとりいれたブルージーな「失われた夏」坂本龍一のCTIばりの流麗な編曲が甘美な「サウスオブボーダー」YMOミーツAORといった趣きの「モンタージュ」といった掛け値なしの初期の名作はもっと聴かれるべき過小評価された存在だ。本作をきっかけに注目されることを望む。

南佳孝さんの曲はどれもがいい曲ばかりで聴いている方にとってこのアルバムは嬉しい一枚だと思います。
「プールサイド」とかはＢ面の曲ですが、Ａ面にしてもおかしくない程ムード感あふれていて、まさに「渚で聴くラヴ・ソング！！」

石川せりの Midnight Love Call を聞いてだれの作曲かとL/Nをみたら、南佳孝だと知りこれを手にしました。

ＣＤ２枚にフルボリューム入れられているので「俯瞰的」であることには間違いないですが、求めるイメージと違うものもあるため、自分流に My Best を編纂する必要がありました。

松本隆作詞の知らない曲がかなりあるので、これから聞き込むつもりです。

30年以上前のオリジナルなのに、アコースチックなアレンジがかなり高音質で再生されている

のも◎でした。　ジャケットはイマイチ。

それと”Midnight Love Call” は石川セリのほうが良かったですね。正直。
