伊武雅刀・小林克也・桑原茂一の作・出演により制作され、1976年から1980年にわたり放送された伝説のラジオ番組 「スネークマンショー」。残された膨大な未商品化ギャグ（コント / ネタともいいます）と、ユニバーサル ミュージックが誇る洋楽曲（ロック / ニュー・ウェイヴ / レゲエ / ソウル / ブラジル etc）を巧みにコンパイル、21世紀に甦らせた2枚組。

   度重なる発売延期を経てようやくリリースされた、スネークマンショーの決定版的アンソロジー。残された膨大な未発表ギャグを中心に、音楽とギャグが交互に出てくる定番パターンで新たに編集されている。

   まずギャグの方は、「盗聴エディ」「ホテルニュー越谷」「ジャンキー大山」など往年の代表的作品が網羅されているが、いずれもこれが初出の未発表バージョンだ。たとえば「盗聴エディ」はエディの声のテンションが低かったり、「ホテルニュー越谷」もナレーションの内容が異なるなど、オリジナルを熟知したファンでも一聴の価値あり。ほかの未発表ギャグも厳選された傑作ぞろい。間に挟まれた音楽は、ジェイムス・ブラウンやマーヴィン・ゲイら60~70年代のソウル~ファンクが中心で、ブラックな笑いとクールなグルーヴがぴったりと合致している。80年代の回顧ではなく、今の視点を盛り込んで制作されているところが彼ららしく、アンソロジーとはいえ新作と呼んでもいいほどの充実した作品だ。（小山 守）

ＣＤケースは、なんともチャチな感じ。ＬＰレコード２枚組みを意識したのでしょうが、ＣＤサイズだとコンパクトすぎて安っぽく感じてしまいます。内容は面白いですが、このＣＤを買おうとする人は、リアルタイム世代が多いと思うので、当時の作成秘話や、当時の反響などをブックレットにしてもらえたら、もっと楽しめただろうと思う（何もないのもかえってサビシイ）。収録内容については、ほとんど知ってる人が多いので、もう少しサービスに力を入れてほしかったのです。以上を理由に☆３です。

何度も発売延期が繰り返されて、ようやくのリリース。

70年代に好事家の間でブームを巻き起こした「スネークマンショー」の２枚組アルバムは“幻のネタ、執念のお蔵出し”（帯のキャッチコピーより）ということであるが、いざ聴いてみると過去にCD化されたものの重複音源もやはりあった。具体的には『スネークマンショー／人格なし ２』（95年発売）や『ラジオ・スネークマンショー　VOL.03』（01年発売）、そして近年復刻されたばかりの『スネークマンショー　海賊版』などに収録済みのギャグである。　
…とはいえ、『海賊版』を除いてはいずれも廃盤、自主回収などによって現在は入手困難なアルバムなので、最近ハマったファンにとってはどうでもよい問題なのかも知れない。　

もちろん今回の『アンソロジー』が初出となるギャグも圧倒的に多く、特に「ホテルニュー越谷」「ラジオショッピング」などのバカバカしさは筆舌に尽くしがたいインパクト。すでに故人である声優・井上遙の名調子も懐かしく聴ける。　元祖スネークマンショーのトリオ（伊武、小林、桑原）が解散してからも、この３人のいずれかが関わった類似企画のアルバムが、これまたまぎらわしいタイトルで幾度か発売されてきたが、やっぱり本家に勝るもの無しという破壊的パワーを再認識させてくれる。全国のスネークマンショーファンなら絶対に“買い！”のアルバムだ。

以前、発売中止に追い込まれたＣＤ「ラジオスネークマンショー」。それに収録されていたギャグが一部「アンソロジー」に入っているが内容は無難なものばかり。「アンソロジー」の出来はいいとは思うが「ラジオスネークマンショー」に比べるとおとなしい仕上がりになっていると思う。スネークマンショーの売りは、やはり「過激さ！」。今や大俳優の伊武雅刀が若かりし頃、くっだらない事や下ネタをバンバン言っていたギャグをもっともっと収録してもらいたかった、ホントに残念・・・。
