4.0 out of 5 stars 四半世紀前、ニューウェーブの旗手だった, 2006/3/5
ポリスやジャムの倍の６人編成で今一スマートさには欠けていたものの、1980年前後には、イギリス・ニューウェーブ（これも死語ですが．．）の旗手と言われて注目を集めていました。
パンクの１枚目、パワーポップの２枚目、バラエティに富んだ３枚目、ファンキーを加えた４枚目、ジャケットがいかした５枚目．．等々それぞれに良いアルバムでしたが、やはりこのグループ、「哀愁のマンデー」に代表されるようにシングル志向のバンドだったと思います。
パンクそのものの「４年生のマリー」からドラマティックなマンデーや「涙のダイヤモンドスマイル」、トロピカルや無垢なバラードと節操がないくらいに刻々と変化し続けるのが彼らの持ち味。そしてお家芸の「ラット・トラップ」等最高のロックンロールの数々。
シングル以外の「ジョーイ」、「エバ・ブラウン」といった名曲も収録されているのでお徳です。あの２５年前のニューウェーブの時代の空気を味わえる１枚だと思います。

Band Aidの発起人でおなじみのボブ・ゲルドフのバンド。
"I don't like Monday"(哀愁のマンデイ)が超名曲。
ジャンルはパンクになるんでしょうか？
クォリティの高いインテリジェンスを感じられるサウンドです。
